Obamas' friendly puppy overwhelms toddler at WH holiday ceremony

Update 5:29 p.m. ET, 12/4/2013

Washington (CNN) - The White House is officially ready for the holidays.

Following yearly tradition, First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled a White House transformed by Christmas finery Wednesday.

This year's theme is "Gather Around," and a small army of volunteers chosen from across the country helped to deck the famous halls, porticos and notable White House rooms.

First dogs Bo and Sunny feature prominently into the aesthetic. The dogs make an appearance scampering across the official 3D White House Christmas card and can be spotted standing in front of the famous gingerbread White House. The gingerbread house took several weeks to create, weighs 300 pounds, and boasts a working fountain.

The first dogs also delighted small children when they made an appearance in the fur Wednesday, as Mrs. Obama welcomed Gold Star families to a Christmas celebration. The children, who have each lost a family member who served in war, made holiday crafts with the first lady and enjoyed iced sugar cookies.

In the hubbub, one small girl took a tumble as she was greeted by the Obamas' exuberant new puppy, Sunny. The dog jumped up to meet the girl, Ashtyn Gardner of Mobile, Alabama, who stepped back and tripped.

Ashtyn, whose parents both serve in the Navy, seemed undaunted and got up to chat with the First Lady, and later walked around proudly carrying a red paper rose. As Mrs. Obama left, the girl gave her a hug and waved an enthusiastic goodbye.

CNN White House Producer Matt Hoye contributed to this report.

I think kids are short so that when they fall down, they don't have far to go. Pee Wee Football is fun to watch.

YOU think it's hard? Try being Obama.

Clearly this is because the Obamas secretly feed the dogs small white children and it thought she was dinner.

We are here on the scene at the White House where apparently President Obama has sicced what appears to be by the initial reports, a VICIOUS untrained feral Pit Bull type animal, it may even be a Chupucabra. Whatever the vicious animal President HUSSEIN obama caused to attack a little white orphan child it suffice to say it has appears to have mauled her possibly to death. Looking on and laughing was Michelle Obama who did nothing to stop the vicious attack.
Stay tuned for more of the same....

In a by line to this story, the President also had a lavish gingerbread house built at the cost of... initial reports indicate 200 Million taxpayer dollars.

A very nice story! I think the First Dogs are incredibly adorable (and that little girl won my heart with her spunk)!

He called me a demagogue a few weeks ago, and has his panties in a twist because I questioned his morality ( or lack thereof). Maybe he should try being Obama, especially in light of his constant accusations of lying while constantly revising his life story does not lend credibility to oneself. On a positive I can honestly say I like Fair: I may disagree with her a lot, but she has done a commendable job of keeping her personal feelings at bay, far better than I have. She is someoen I wish more conservatives would pattern themselves on.

What goes around comes around. You've called me liar since your day one. Man up, and suck it up. If you cannot take it, then you shouldn't serve it. Besides, you and the rest of the right wing need to learn the difference between saying something that's wrong, and saying something that's a lie.

Obama must be a dictator. The first thing a dictator does is get his family to knock over kids with a dog. When dogs are outlawed, only the dictator's family will have a dog.

Yeah, but bygones, right? 🙂 I mean, we all fall prey to the temptation to be a little mean about stuff while posting sometimes...can't let it get to you. I try to remember to direct most of the mean-ness at CNN when I feel the temptation haha. If anyone deserves a good verbal curbstomping, it's the MSM.
