Bob Barker says 'the choice is right'

(CNN) - Bob Barker is taking sides in a Republican primary for a vacant U.S. House seat in Florida.

The former longtime host of "The Price is Right" stars in a new TV commercial for David Jolly, who is running to succeed his one-time boss, the late Rep. Bill Young, who died earlier in October.

In the ad, Barker, who turns 90 Thursday, says "folks, when you get to be as young as I am, you call it like you see it. That's why I'm supporting David Jolly for Congress. I admired David as he worked along my good friend Bill Young, helping wounded veterans, protecting our seniors and children, and by standing up for Pinellas (county) with character and honor."

The spot ends with Barker saying "with Jolly, the choice is right."

Jolly's campaign says the commercial would first run Thursday morning, during the local airing of "The Price is Right." Barker is making a cameo appearance Thursday's program to celebrate his 90th birthday.

Jolly, who worked as a lobbyist, was also a longtime adviser and former general counsel for Young, who was in his 22nd term in the House and was the longest serving Republican in the chamber at the time of his death.

Jolly is facing off against state Sen. Kathleen Peters in the January 14 primary. The winner will run against Democrat Alex Sink, the former chief financial officer for Florida, in the March 11th general election.

Florida's 13th district, which covers most of Pinellas County and parts of St. Petersburg, is considered a swing district and the special election to fill out the remainder of Young's term is expected to be firmly in the national political spotlight.

Fantastic – when I want to take advice from someone who is so old that the chances that they can remember their own name or what they had for breakfast at 9am I'll call up Bob. Until then... how about we put an age cap on politicians. If you can't understand the basics of how email works or your office still uses snail mail, you're too old.

This is a man with family values. He had to pay millions to some of the women that worked on his show for making sexual advances. When he talks about backing someone it makes me think birds of a feather flock together.

Here comes the affluent, rich, out of stater telling us how to vote. The price must really be right. Jolley is an lobbyist who evidently can not make it on his own without Bill Young's help. He will sell us down the drain for the right price.Just terrible.

You always get high-quality public information from aging celebreties.... add this to Fred Thompson's reverse mortgage scam and you have at least a minutes worth of quality aged entertainment. Shoot, Life Alert ads are much more entertaining... and relevant.

It's always funny to hear people retract their 'respect' for a 90 year old man who they have recently found out supports a Republican for a congressional seat. Typical Democrap, drivel.

In the final analysis, he's a retired game show host expressing a personal opinion. I doubt he's going to move the needle much in either direction, and if there is anyone out there who's vote has ever been changed by a celebrity endorsement, regardless of what your politics are, shame on you for being weak-minded.

I wonder how many liberal heads exploded when it was discovered that a television show host who saves animals was not a liberal.

I can't fault the guy for being human. Some of those ladies were uh, lets say exceptional. But, I will fault the guy for letting his weaknesses overwhelm his common sense. Besides, everyone knows that work and relationships just simply do not mix.

Just because you're old and had a successful TV show doesn't mean you know diddly about politics. Florida voters, do your own research and vote for the best candidate.

THAT would be the right choice.

The family infighting should make it very interesting. Son Billy is in Kathleen Peters' camp while several other familymembers are Jolly supporters. Meanwhile Widow Young was whining on the news a few days ago that this split wouldn't be happening if SHE had run for her late husband's seat. LOL at the arrogance of this family!
