Insurers ease deadline to pay for Obamacare policies
(CNN) - Health insurers announced Wednesday they will give people buying coverage under Obamacare more time to make the first payment.
America's Health Insurance Plans, the industry trade group, said consumers now have until Jan. 10 to make their first payment for coverage retroactive to Jan. 1.
The deadline to sign up for insurance that kicks in Jan. 1 remains the same - Dec. 23 in the vast majority of the country.
Before Wednesday's announcement, consumers had to make the first payment by Jan.1 in order to guarantee coverage starting that day.
While they won't be insured until they make that first payment, enrollees will be retroactively covered back to Jan. 1 as long as they send the first check by Jan 10.
"The short time period in which to complete these steps, particularly around the holidays, combined with the ongoing technical issues with HealthCare.gov have raised concerns that some consumers' coverage may not be able to begin on January 1," according to a statement by the AHIP board of directors.
"Health plans are voluntarily making this one-time change to the payment deadline to help protect consumers from potential gaps in their coverage caused by the ongoing technical problems" with the Obamacare website, the statement said.

"Republicans shut down the government". You know?.. that's the funniest lie of all (and considering obamas list to choosefrom, tthat's saying something). The fact that anyone who didn't drink the kool aide can look up is that Obama personally shut down the government. The republican congress offered multiple plans that funded ALL of government except obamacare. Obama himself said that he would not negotiate. Period. Then his cronies followed. He could have accepted, delayed obamacare and had the obvious much needed time to fix it BEFORE it emploded. But no. He didnt want to negotiate. Look it up. It is a historical fact.
That perpetual lying .... then had the gall to say "republicans shut down the government". Amazing.... but the funny thing is, that lie stuck because you people selectively ignore facts that play out in the open around you.

For example, Yolanda insisted that the only "government workers" affected by the budget deal were veterans. It is a documented fact that all government workers will have to make a higher contribution to their pension. No thanks, Obama. I'll keep my freedom of choice (if we can still call it that) and take my chances without insurance for now. I guess that means I'll be fined/taxed for holding onto that freedom. I can say goodbye to my "fun" money: gas, rent, utilities, student loan payments and who could forget FOOD – I guess I can get food stamps now! Huurahh! "Free" stuff!
Insurers can extend until next year but people still aren't giing to pay for it. And when do you HHS tells us how many people actually have paid vs how many lost their plans prior?
