(CNN) - President Barack Obama is planning to nominate Sen. Max Baucus as U.S. ambassador to China, a Democratic official told CNN.
The Montana Democrat is retiring from Congress.
A longtime Baucus friend and confidante speaking on condition of anonymity told CNN's John King the Senator informed him directly that the China appointment was true.
A spokesman for Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and a close friend of Baucus, confirmed to CNN's Paul Steinhauser that Hatch told the Washington Post that Baucus is the ambassadorial pick.
Baucus had no comment when asked about the appointment.
I hope the Hon. Sen. from Montana will get out of the fortress of the American Embassy in Beijing and visit some of the 'American's' living in the country. Come to the interior, Mr. Ambassador and see the 'real' China...
Oh heck man no!! another 1 . i just hope he takes his on dogfood! an request them not hack our space station .they hav got 3 friends aboard that ship. never ends. u can think bill clinton 4 all their rocket tech. if u dont believ it reserch it . thex didnn hau 2!
Another American ready to kowtow to the Chinese elders. Good.
The Obamacare vote pay backs continue.
Does he speak Chinese? That would be a good idea, but he can learn the language with the many programs.
Forgive, but initially this seems like a terrible choice. Democrat or not, what' this guy know about Chinese and what's he know of Chinese culture, history, language, etc.? Anything? I hope the President will reconsider if this rumor is true. There is no more imporant ambasadorial relationship in our world.
President Obama set up the Guns Over People tea potty to obstruct one of their own wingnuts. Brilliant move. Watch them do it.
