Obamacare website down – and back up

Updated 2:23 p.m. ET, 12/20/2013

New York (CNNMoney) - The federal Obamacare exchange website went down again for several hours on Friday, leaving consumers unable to sign up just days before the deadline to obtain coverage by Jan. 1.

In the early afternoon, many visitors were greeted with a message saying the site had a lot of visitors and asked people to wait. By about 2 pm, the site appeared to be operating normally and users were directed to log in or create an account.

41% is about how many are on welfare and food stamps. It won't get much lower.

I'm not surprised. I knew they weren't ready for the crunch of users as the deadlines approach. That's what happens ever year on April 16. Why should this be any different? Having a site that can handle a peak of 50,000 concurrent users is underpowered by at least a factor of 10. It should have been built to handle 5 million at a time, if you ask me.

scheduled maintenance??? who the heck are they trying to kid?! more like unscheduled disaster. months after rollout, one month after they claimed it was fixed.

but not to worry, i'm sure it will not interfere with obama's multimillion dollar vacation in hawaii.

I love how it says they are performing "scheduled maintenance", which is a complete lie, I have NEVER heard of ANY system/web page perform scheduled maintenance in the middle of a business day!!!

I guess I should wait to try and log in when there isn’t as many visitors. 3am in the morning should be a good time.

Funny thing is, I am able to get onto Amazon and Ebay without a problem…

Sad, truly sad. It is just unreal how bad the ACA has turned out and this just the begining.

@ Sniffet...Its only a joke because what is reported does not fit your ideology. The MSM is jumping on this ACA because it is news and just happens to be really bad news. BO basked in the sunshine for 5 years. Now his accomplishment(s) are coming home to roost. Thank God for the "Ed Henry's of this world to keep this administration from "Steam rolling" this country.

@ GOP Solution...Your raves and rants are old, tired but mainly just unfounded. More commonly referred to as "bias".

You know what I don't trust CNN polls. Most of them have become Fox news. They are no longer neutral

Sniffit - Man, the MSM is a freekin joke.
    --

Finally something we can agree on!! But you didn't hold this opinion when they spent the last 5 years (includes one year before he was elected) spreading his lies and propaganda without checking ANY of it. Then you loved them.

But now the Obama disasters, failures and lies are so great that even his MSM lackeys/supporters cannot lie and cover him for fear of losing any and all credibility. In other words, they are finally doing their jobs and not acting as if they were on Obama's paid campaign staff.

Look on the bright side Sniffit, at least they lied and covered for Obama long enough for him to get re-elected. If they hadn't he would have lost the election.

"@ Sniffet...Its only a joke because what is reported does not fit your ideology."

What? What does this have to do with ideology? Websites go down for "scheduled maintenance" all the time, even the ones that are perfectly stable, responsive and running smoothly, and yet CNN is selling this like the sky is falling, using an obvious bait-headline to draw negative attention to it and further their nontroversy narrative. Meanwhile, CNN has been largely ignoring things like the fact that the administration reported that the website signed up 30,000 people in the first two days of December, the state based exchanges are chugging along nicely and reporting accelerated enrollment activity. These are objective, verifiable observations and have nothing to do with ideology.

    -----------------------------------
It is harder to get a voter ID card than health insurance. The internet is open for business 24/7. Most of the states requiring Voter ID cards, have reduced operating hours at state DMV offices. Pennsylvania was one of the extremes. The legislature estimated that as many as 700,000 people would need photo IDs issued through DMV offices. The state'a budget, which was passed before PA's Voter ID law, had only provided funds to manufacture 70,000 photo IDs. The legislature voted to decrease funding for photo IDs to roughly 35,000. They'd cut the budget in half.

"Finally something we can agree on!! But you didn't hold this opinion when they spent the last 5 years..."

Are you kidding me? I've been rabidly ridiculing CNN and the MSM on the Ticker on an almost-daily basis since 2008 or so. In fact, 90% of the time, I'm surprised they let me say half of what I say about them on here, and it's a wonder they haven't just made it moderator policy to simply delete anything from someone calling themselves "Sniffit."
