Michelle Obama answers NORAD's Santa hotline

(CNN) – First lady Michelle Obama took 30 minutes out of her Christmas Eve Tuesday for her annual tradition of answering calls to NORAD's program to track Father Christmas.

According to a White House spokesman, Obama answered children's calls to the Santa Claus tracker hotline from the first family's vacation spot in Honolulu, Hawaii, starting at around 11:00 a.m. local time.

(CNN) - In a note sent to supporters, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi shared her holiday cheer, saying that the photo is from the Pelosi family gathering celebrating the California Democrat's 50th wedding anniversary with husband Paul.

Daughter of NYC mayor-elect reveals depression, substance abuse

(CNN) - Chiara de Blasio, daughter of New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, has struggled with clinical depression and drug abuse, the 19-year-old revealed in a YouTube video posted Christmas Eve.

"I've had depression, like clinical depression, for my entire adolescence," de Blasio says in the video. "It made it easier, the more I drank and did drugs, to share some common ground with people that I wouldn't have. It didn't start out as a huge thing for me but then it became a really huge thing for me."

Sign-ups surge ahead of Obamacare deadline

(CNNMoney) - Eager to get health insurance starting Jan. 1, Americans flocked to state and federal Obamacare exchanges Monday to sign up for policies.

The federal exchange site, healthcare.gov, saw nearly 2 million page views and the call center received more than 250,000 calls, officials said. It was a record traffic day that left some consumers stuck in an electronic line on the website or on hold for long periods on the phone.

Poll: Economy still looms large over Christmas

(CNN) - While Americans may still deck the halls and stuff the stockings this Christmas, a new poll finds that the state of the economy is playing a major role in how Americans will celebrate it in 2013.

According to the CNN/ORC International poll, Americans plan to curtail their Christmas gift giving and charitable contributions due to economic concerns, while a sizable minority of Americans, 37%, report that the economy will make the Christmas holiday more stressful.

GOP weekly address: Happy holidays to the military

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho asked revelers Tuesday in the GOP weekly address to remember the men and women of the military in their holiday celebrations.

"As we reach for one of those gifts under the tree and untie a bow, I encourage all of us to remember the bountiful and most prized gifts we enjoy-the gifts of freedom and worship," Risch said.
