Caught on video: Snoop Dogg and the secretary of state
A surreal video surfaced on social media Thursday in which rapper Snoop Dogg and Secretary of State John Kerry fist-bump and talk hip-hop at the White House. Seriously.
Snoop tweeted a link to the video posted on his Instragram account Thursday afternoon. “@SnoopDogg “Boss life. me n john kerry at d white house !!! #reincarnated #khc instagram.com/p/iZstshv9Ha/”
The candid moment appears to have been captured on a cell phone the day of the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington. Snoop Dogg was invited to perform a tribute that evening for jazz legend Herbie Hancock. The “Snoop and the Secretary video” appears to have been shot at reception held at the White House.
In the vertical cell phone video, Snoop Dogg and Secretary Kerry appear to be rapping about the musical influence of Herbie Hancock. The audio is low, but you can hear Snoop say “He invented hip-hop, that’s why it only makes sense.”
Kerry and Snoop Dogg then laugh and fist-pound it out. Kerry can be heard saying, “You gave me a good pound.”
The Instagram video has now received almost 24,000 likes.
The State Department official Twitter account retweeted the video, with what appeared to be a message from Kerry himself, complete with his initials JK.

The 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony was held the evening of December 8 and will air Sunday night at 9 p.m. on CBS.
