More than two million enrolled in Obamacare

Washington (CNN) - More than two million people will have health insurance under Obamacare at the start of 2014, the Department of Health and Human Services said on Tuesday.

The figure made public in a department statement includes people who have signed up through federal and state marketplaces set up under the politically charged health care reforms championed by President Barack Obama.

Two million enrolled, half of them have paid, 10% think they are insured but are not due to back end errors. Enrolled is an entirely meaningless state. Obamacare is in a massive state of confusion. Only people that have paid and have an ID card have healthcare coverage. But the Obama administration can't give us that number because the web site is still incomplete and not able to do the complete job. That will probably take another 3 years and billion dollars.

@Fair is Fair-Most older people are responsible and already have healthcare. We would rather spend money for healthcare than the latest cell phone or xbox that cost $500.00. We also are the generation that saves and do not live paycheck to paycheck for instant gratification. Some of us are quite healthy and did not grow up surfing the couch or trolling the internet.

Awww, but how many of them have actually "paid" their first premium. From reports last night the insurers are saying only 5-15% have actually paid and thus have a policy. It's all smoke and mirrors 🙂

I did not like the law when it passed, and I don't I like it today. The main reason isn't because I didn't think that the healthcare system access needed to be correct. It was because if you want something to be run into the ground then have the government do it. Lessons are never learned from the past, because new people come into office and think they can do it better. Sorry, the government is bigger than a 51 Senators and a President.

Yeah, except the government runs both Social Security and Medicare exceptionally well, and both would be financially sound if politicians hadn't used those accounts as slush funds for their whims, and had instead left them alone.

Just – for the slow earners, if you have your own plan, and it conforms to the law, you can keep it. Since you are clueless, let me repeat, I will look at options when our wingnut governor is gone.

Yes, if your definition of exceptionally well includes pays untold billions every year in waste, fraud and abuse every single year, is financially unstable given current funding and demographics and is controlled by politicians that steal the money and use it to buy votes.

If they were run like this by a private company, every one would be serving hard time in the pen and it would have been shut down. But it is "the government" and they decide what laws to enforce and what to not enforce.

This is more than was before. It would be nice if there was little problem with the website. To think how many more would be signed up if it worked correctly from the get go; we might be at 5 to 6 million or the same amount.

Physicians should – and do lose their license when they commit medicare fraud. CEOs of healthcare corporations (our illustrious governor here in Florida for example) make out like bandits, then are "fined" pennies on the dollar for what they stole from taxpayers. Social Secrity fraud, like welfare fraud isn't as prevalent as some would like you to believe. We bail out private companies who engage in wholesale theft of taxpayer funds, yet not a single CEO or Wall Street executive has gone to prison for their criminal activities of the first decade of the new millenium.

yeah but that was an old plan from an evil greedy health insurance company that is ripping you off and denying you coverage. i guess that wasn't true if you now want to stick with them and continue paying them.

again, the obamacare exchanges you lefty clowns were telling people were such a good deal and were saving people money and had better coverage should be a much better deal for you too right? you mean they are not?

and what does the governor of florida have to do with your personal healthcare insurance decision? he doesn't care what you do, why should you care about him? you sound like you are not thinking straight? too much sun down there?

Well the writing is on the wall now. At least 975,000 of that number was in December alone from just the Federal Site. At this rate they will probably reach their goal, especially with all those last, last minute sign ups by young people. Since before the rollout I think the magic deadline was 7mill signups by March 31 and whatever they could be before Dec 31, in order to insure that transition before the new year was sound. The smooth transition part of the goal was completely trashed by the rollout, but this new number of 30ish% enrolled of 7 million is pretty good since the number was like 300,000 by the end of November.

Just have to see if young people join up and what the actual numbers look like and what is actually required for the program to work, since the initial goals are just estimates from some very complicated math. It will be interesting to see if they really need 7million people because it seems because less people are getting subsidies (everyones complaining they don't qualify), less people and young will have to pay for them.

  19. Welcome to ObamaCHAOS

Actually, Obamacare now has 319 MILLION potential enrollees, all eligible for free medical treatment. All of us can, as of tomorrow, walk into any medical facility and get treatment claiming we have enrolled in Obamacare. Obama has asked the doctors and hospitals to believe everybody and treat them and the government will pay for it later.

Expect a massive flood of fraudulent Obamacare "enrollees" to get "free" treatment that the US taxpayer ends up footing the bill for. The massive chaos and numerous changes by Obama has created a system where nobody knows what the heck is going on. Welcome to ObamaCHAOS.

He and his rightwing brethern in the Florida Legislature recently enacted legislation allowing insurance companies to raise medical premiums on policyholders here in the State of Florida by as much as they want, whenever they want. And they ADMITTED they did so for no other purpose than to make Floridians "hate Obamacare".

Blah, blah, blah.... The fact remains tens of BILLIONS of dollars in waste, fraud and abuse exists in these programs and the government refuses to go after it and stop it. Only if it reaches astronomical proportions do they go after them.

And of course you totally ignored the other points which you have no counter to.
