(CNN) – As a woman and her husband were opening a late-arriving Christmas box on Tuesday, they found among their own gifts a present from President Barack Obama and his family.
Alane Church, who lives in Wadsworth, Illinois, north of Chicago, said they discovered an already-opened gift addressed to "Mama Kaye," a close friend of the first family and the godmother to Sasha and Malia Obama.

Church showed the gift - a photo book of the Obamas - to CNN affiliate WLS. She said she verified the godmother's address and plans to return it to her as soon as possible.
"I really care about photographs and books and all that stuff, so I thought she's going to really be missing not having this," Church said.
In an interview on NBC's "Today" show on Thursday, Church said the box of packages arrived in "major disarray," with the gifts already broken open.
"At the bottom of the box was this extra gift, and we were reading the tag trying to figure out where this came from," she said. "It was opened, and we then discovered this was a very personal gift to Mama Kaye."
A White House official confirmed that the President and First Lady sent a book of photos to Sasha and Malia's godmother for Christmas.
"There was an errant delivery but we're appreciative of the effort underway to make sure the gift arrives at the intended destination soon," the official added.
USPS says they're looking into the situation.

I wonder was the package delivered via FedEx or UPS.
First on Faux News: "The first thing an evil socialist tyrant does is send gifts to the wrong people." (joke)

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment, and USPS says they're looking into the situation.
Looks like it was a government screw up.
FedEx would have been a better choice and after my experience with the USPS this Christmas, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. My packages stayed in CA for over 10 days and I couldn't even track them. My family in FL received my gifts two days after Christmas and after all the time and money I spend each year into what I send, I am still furious. From now on, FedEx will have my business.
Wow- Mail goes to wrong address and this rates a "Politics" story?
Darrell Issa has just issued a statement asserting that this was clearly an Al Qaeda influenced assault on our delivery couriers and that he will be convening an investigation. Subpoenas will be forthcoming by the end of the week

That was UPS, not USPS that had delivery issues this past Christmas, woman.
Yes, this president is a legend. Already legacy stood alive well. God bless!!!

The USPS got my packages to their destinations on time. Get your acronyms right. USPS is not UPS.

FedEx and UPS both experienced delivery delays due to weather. Regarding you not being able to track your USPS packages, you should have sent them via a method that included tracking. You made that choice (probably because it cost less) – and you got the consequences.
Cry on someone else's shoulder ...
Oh, I wonder when the gop tea potty will start investigating this XMAS GIFT fiasco... its Obama's fault!
Time for Darryll Issa to start issuing subpoena's and for Faux News to set up a full court press banging & hammering on this 'news' day & night with breaking NEWS Ticker and screen scroll ups until they find the culprits @ the WH!!!!
Mistakes happens !!
Unless you're a republican !
A bear could crap in the woods & Faux News would find a way to blame Obama for it. Don't get me wrong; Obama has been doing some stupid & shady stuff, but McCain & Romney would have been much worse
They should of sent it back to Obama with a lump of coal. The look on his face-Priceless.
You just cant make this stuff up.
There's a 47% chance that the mistaken mail carrier voted for Mitt Romney.
Can't this "off the radar" President and his motley crew DO Anything right? His lousey
year ended in Illinois the way it began in
Boston! And Obamacare-less is the gift that will keep on giving-and taking(from the disgruntled Middle Class) in 2014.
Republicans rule come Nov! Aloha Reid!
USPS screwing up a delivery? I'm shocked... SHOCKED I tell you.
Really this all over a package delivered to the wrong address. Of course the family had to make their rounds with the media before returning it for redelivery. America has gone to the dogs. This is pathetic. Go ahead GOP/TP Trolls complain about this one too.
Well Golly,
It is the for runner of Obama Care, can't ya tell? Hey folks, it snowed! If your packages arrived a bit over due so be it ! You want everything on a Silver Platter and you want somebody else to pay for it.
