(CNN) - The Justice Department on Friday appealed a December federal court decision threatening the National Security Agency's program that collects data on nearly every phone call made in the United States.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon in Washington found the program was likely unconstitutional.

They will do whatever they can, to protect their political snooping on their opposition, and all of America, and indeed the world.
Most of the snooping........is for POLITICAL PURPOSES........and NOT for security purposes.
This is all GOP garbage. Nothing more than this. Where were these guys when GOP snooped every one's telephone conservation under Patriotic Act by John Ashcraft?
Here's the rub; there are no good guys in this situation. Snowden committed a major felony, and he keeps leaking for his own benefit. Last time he was trying to swap stolen intel for asylum in Brazil. The NSA is no better; they have gone insanely overboard in their spying on US citizens and the system of checks and balances has failed. Dems and Repubs have both aided and abetted the NSA's activity. They warn of terrorists trying to destroy our way of life while using the Patriot act to wipe out half the Bill of Rights. All involved need to be reined in, if not brought to justice.
No sir!
The Patriot Act is a tool that is aimed at terrorists.
It just depends who pulls the trigger and at whom. @Gonzoinhouston.
This is all democrat garbage! Nothing more than this. Where is your outrage at the increased snooping not authorzed in the patriot act according to its author, Jim Sensenbrenner. Derp
Just think. When the Christian Theocracy is established, all the citizens can be monitored for moral violations.
@Silence
If the statement you make regarding Christians were about Muslims you would be going nuts and calling people bigots. Why do you hate Christians so much?
if you think that all the nsa is collecting is metadata then i have a bridge to sell you. they lied through their teeth to try and protect this program. i am sure there is much more being collected and or scanned, like the actual contents of email and phone calls. what would all of you nsa defenders say if they were doing that? would you surrender every part of your privacy for a potential minimum security benefit?

You mean as opposed to now when we have a mini leftist dictatorship using the government to target political opposition groups and people?

OK – I will say it: I don't want a Muslim Theocracy to take over America either. It is just that Radical Christians are directly influencing the Supreme Court and politicians right more so than any other niche religious sect.
And I do not hate Christians. I never said that. I just don't want them or any religion to run the government.
“I am for freedom of religion and against all maneuvers to bring about a legal ascendancy of one sect over another.”
~Thomas Jefferson, letter to Elbridge Gerry, January 26, 1799
The pentagon has cut out 1/3 of countries, airspace, and waterways where US service members can recieve imminent danger pay. It is truly sad when starting cutting the pay to the brave men and women who serve. This admin. and congress disgust me.

I absolutely choose Freedom of Religion as we have now and as the Founders envisioned over the horror of any religious Theocracy.

Remember how we got the Patriot Act? Remember how the right wingnuts supported spying on Americans? I believe they said they had no problem with the wingnut law because they had nothing to hide.
