Liz Cheney abandons Senate bid
New York (CNN) - Liz Cheney, whose upstart bid to unseat Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi sparked warfare in the Republican Party and within her own family, is dropping out of the primary race, she said on Monday.
"Serious health issues have recently arisen in our family, and under the circumstances, I have decided to discontinue my campaign," the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney said in a written statement.

Napolitano, Romney weigh in on safety, politics of Winter Olympics
Washington (CNN) - The head of the U.S. delegation to the upcoming Olympic Winter Games said the United States will work closely with host country Russia to ensure security, especially in light of the two recent terrorist bombings there.
“We want the Games to be safe, and we want it to be about the athletes,” said Janet Napolitano on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. Napolitano recently left her post as secretary of Homeland Security and was chosen by President Barack Obama to lead the Olympic delegation.
Former Montana governor’s fondness for Iowa
Washington (CNN) - Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer was coy when teased about his intentions for 2016 on a Sunday talk show.
ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Schweitzer if his comments in Iowa last month criticizing Democrats who voted to go to war in Iraq was a “not so subtle shot across the bow for Hillary Clinton.”
Sen. Paul: Snowden deserves 'reasonable sentence'
Washington (CNN) - While Sen. Rand Paul thinks Edward Snowden shouldn't escape prosecution, the Kentucky lawmaker said Sunday the NSA leaker should receive some leniency.
"I don't think Edward Snowden deserves the death penalty or life in prison," Paul told ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "I think that's inappropriate."
Reid blames Republican 'foolishness' for benefits gap
Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Sunday that, while he's hopeful an extension of unemployment benefits will pass the Senate, he railed against Republicans for refusing to pass the measure without offsets, lambasting the GOP for isolating Americans "desperate" and out of work.
"We have never offset emergency spending. That's foolishness," Reid told CNN's Alison Harding.
Romney bashes Obama for 'deceptive' healthcare promises
Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney said Sunday he believes President Barack Obama obscured the truth when he pledged citizens could keep their insurance plans if they liked it under his new health care law.
"He told people, 'You can keep the insurance you have, if you like it,'” Romney told Fox News' Chris Wallace. "That was not honest. That was deceptive."
Sen. Paul has his own Obamacare debacle

Romney accepts MSNBC host's apology
Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney took a conciliatory tone Sunday when asked about an MSNBC panel mocking a family holiday card that showed him holding his adopted black grandchild, saying it is time to move on.
"People make mistakes and the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake and they apologized for it," Romney said Sunday in an interview on Fox News Sunday. "They apologized for it. That's all we can ask for."
White House warns Republicans against fighting economic fixes
Washington (CNN) – The President’s top economic adviser warned Republicans that threatening default on the debt limit was risking political peril.
The White House's Director of the National Economic Council told CNN's Candy Crowley on Sunday morning that Republicans not only risk doing irreparable damage to the economy if they were to risk the full faith and credit of the United States in another political showdown with the Obama administration, but they could also destroy their chances at the polls in November.
