New York (CNNMoney) - For the first time ever, more than half of current members of Congress are millionaires, according to a new report from the non-profit Center for Responsive Politics.
Among the 534 current members of Congress, at least 268 had an average net worth of $1 million or more for 2012, the CRP said, citing disclosure forms filed last year. A year ago, the total stood at 257 members, or about 48%.

No wonder they don't care about the average American. The rich get richer while the poor and the middle class toil in abject poverty.
Who says crime don't pay
how do they become millionaires after a few terms in congress, and they make $175,00.00 a year. I need to learn that math
Like this is a surprise?
The surprise is most democrats don't even know that the Senate is part of congress.
Precisely why we MUST set term limits on both houses.
And this is surprising ???
While they drive us into the poorhouse.
All that money and they are still considered BUMS by most Americans !!!!!!
great, Just what we all need.
A worthless bunch that don't give a crap about the average person and how hard we all struggle to make a decent life out of ourselves.
I don't know what else to say.
A very broken system .
This is not new information. I believe CNN wrote a similar article last year. This reflects why many of them have such a "tin ear" toward the less fortunate among us.
Hmmm.... Congress has such low approval ratings, but yet such high reelection ratings. How could this be?
Well yea they have insider trading information.
most are double dipping, unproductive, are we surprised, legislation is written for corporate, not the masses
This is news? Were than any among you that had the idea they were poor? For those believing your congressperson to be of meager means, please don't vote this next election. You actually need help, help in the form of psychiatry and educational pursuit.
There isn't any problem with being a millionaire. It is that suddenly you want to keep everyone who isn't in their place below you. With no way or means to rise above it. Labor is so much cheaper if you can keep the workers in poverty.
It goes to show that only the wealthy can be elected to Congress and write the laws for all of us. No wonder why so many in Congress don't like social welfare programs. They don't see the need because they can't look beyond their own door.
Figures...That's why they don't care about the rest of us and those that are struggling...
Issa the GOP thug and insurance scammer is at the top of the list with 450 million dallars, I'm sure he can't relate to anybody on foodstamps or without healthcare and should be in jail not in congress these GOP trash need to be kicked out of office. They represent the one % and should get one% of the vote!!!!!!
So! A million dollar net worth is not all that much. This is just more red meat for the liberal left to feed on.
Funny how the American dream used to be that ome could be successful. The obama administration has made an agenda out of villianizing those who are. ....Wait. No. Apparently we are supposed to hate "certain" successful people.
I wonder what percent of NBA players are millionaires? NFL? Movie actors? Jayz? Beonce? Opra? Al Sharpton?
Its these class and race baiting articles that is the foundation of liberal propaganda.
What percent of the NBA? NFL? Or is that Ok?
Who are we supposed to hate? Just let me know.
