(CNN) - The Texas gubernatorial race is already turning into a high-dollar contest.
Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis' team reported Tuesday raising $12.2 million in the second half of last year.

The sum is a combined figure of money raised by her campaign, her state office campaign and a political action committee that backs her campaign.
On the Republican side, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's campaign reported raising $11.5 million in the fundraising period from July 1-December 31, bringing his total sum for 2013 to $16.3 million.
His campaign says it has $27 million cash in hand.
Davis and Abbott are considered the leading candidates in their respective parties. The primary is March 4.
Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican, announced last year he would not seek re-election.
