New Jersey Lt. Gov.: Hoboken allegations are 'offensive to me'

(CNN) - New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno denied "whole-heartedly" allegations Monday that she gave Hoboken's mayor an ultimatum to support a private redevelopment plan backed by Gov. Chris Christie in order to receive Hurricane Sandy recovery aid.

"Mayor Zimmer's version of our conversation in May of 2013 is not only false but is illogical and does not withstand scrutiny when all of the facts are examined. Any suggestion that Sandy funds were tied to the approval of any project in New Jersey is completely false," she said at a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday event in Union Beach, New Jersey.

Guadagno's remarks were the first time a senior Christie official addressed the charges Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer first made Saturday on MSNBC and detailed to CNN on Sunday.

Zimmer claims that Guadagno told her to support a redevelopment project backed by Christie or lose Sandy recovery funds. Zimmer, a Democrat, also said she was told the threat came directly from the Republican governor.

Hoboken was one of the cities hit hardest by the 2012 hurricane, which ravaged the eastern seaboard, destroying an estimated $100 million worth of property

But Guadagno said Monday such a suggestion is "wholly and completely false."

"Standing in Union Beach as we are today with some of the mayors whose towns were devastated by Sandy, and also being a Sandy victim myself, makes the mayor's allegations particularly offensive to me," she continued.

The lieutenant governor said she thought she had a good relationship with the mayor, saying they had met in Hoboken three months after the May 2013 conversation.

"Frankly I'm surprised that Mayor Zimmer has chosen to mischaracterize a conversation I had with her about development and job creation in Hoboken," she said.

Refusing to take any questions, Guadagno closed her remarks by reiterating that she denies any suggestions that "there was every any condition...on the release of Sandy funds by me."

"I am sure–absolutely sure–that the facts will come out," she said.

Anyone associated with the Christie Administration simply can't be trusted. It's obvious there is a culture of intimidation in New Jersey.

No doubt the truth will come out. Meanwhile, perhaps Christie should have waited for his "Stronger Than The Storm" commercial's. He could have saved the taxpayers a few million (20 million to date). Apparently the storm isn't quite over. Oh ... I forgot. Those commercial's were Christie fluff pieces otherwise known as campaign ads.

Funny how Zimmer is willing to take oath and testify but Christies mob is not answering questions. If Christie did not give the order to close the bridge then why won't his staff talk?

Anyone can read this woman's face and understand she is full of worries, though she is trying very hard to cover it. What is going on in New Jersey? Is this what Christie asked people to look at as a good example?

Well, yeah when you count adult children who are still on their parents' policies; people whose policies weren't cancelled owing to the so-called pre-existing conditions, and ;caps on care being removed the figure of those covered now who were not before, and those whose policies have not been terminated, the figure is more like about 9 million.

Face it the biggest ACA liar is the Right- after all the Koch brothers have plowed $2 billion into a campaign to make it so. You must be proud.

Christie and his minions can and should protests their innocence. However, they also need to answer questions if they want this controversy to go away in a timely fashion. Just like BP, by allowing this drip, drip, drip of additional controversy to pile up, (like so much oil in the gulf) at some point their credibility vanishes because of the sheer volume of issues. The GOP knows this after all- that has been their policy against both Presidents Clinton and Obama- and most if not all of those scandals held no water.

Well, Mayor Zimmer did say that she had claimed that she would deny it. Let's look at the part that is inarguable, then. So far, the City of Hoboken has received just over $300,000 in funds. They are supposed allocated tens of millions, but those funds have yet to be forthcoming. The allegation says the Governor's office wanted all of the money to fund a private developer's project in Hoboken, leaving dozens of dozens of blocks out of the picture.

Where was the President of BP when 11 American oil rig workers got blown up in the gulf? "What difference does it make" where the President was? There was nothing he could do. These were 4 CIA operatives working 468 miles from their embassy in a country with no government undergoing a civil war. They knew the risks. Stop with your Benghazi nonsense, try reality for a change and try to stay focused on the events at hand.
