(CNN) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's poll numbers are dropping in neighboring New York State, according to a new poll.
And a Siena College survey released Monday also indicates that New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo's numbers are on the rise.

According to the poll, Christie's favorable rating among Empire State voters has dropped from 63% in November, around the time of his landslide re-election victory, to 49% now, with his unfavorable rating jumping from 25% to 39%. Much of that drop comes from Democrats and New York City voters, with Christie's numbers among Republicans and downstate suburbanites remaining strong.
"Christie's image with New Yorkers – particularly Democrats and independents – has hit a major speed bump," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.
Christie has faced multiple controversies the past two weeks, from the closing of access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, allegedly carried out by top Christie aides as punishment for a New Jersey mayor who didn't endorse Christie's 2013 re-election, to the Democratic mayor of Hoboken, who claims the Governor used Superstorm Sandy recovery funds as leverage over a development project stalled in the city across the Hudson River from New York.
2016 effect
The controversies come as Christie, fresh off his re-election landslide, has been considering a bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, and as he's taken over as chairman of the Republican Governors Association. According to the poll, Christie's standing in hypothetical 2016 matchups has eroded.
Two months ago the Republican governor trailed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by 16 percentage-points among New York State voters in a possible matchup in the next presidential election. Now Christie trails Clinton by 28 points. And in a hypothetical showdown with Andrew Cuomo, New York State's Democratic governor, Christie trails by 20 points. In November, Christie had a five point margin over Cuomo.
Cuomo's numbers on the rise
Two thirds of Empire State voters say they have a favorable view of their governor, up five points from 61% in November, with Cuomo's unfavorable rating dropping four points from 32% to 28%. And Cuomo's approval rating has jumped 10 points, from 44% two months ago to 54% now.
Cuomo's up for re-election as governor this year, and 57% questioned in the poll say they are prepared to give him another term in Albany, up from 51% in November. A third say they would prefer someone else as New York governor, down from 41% two months ago.
The Siena College poll was conducted January 12-16, well after the bridge controversy made national headlines but before the allegations from Hoboken's mayor broke, with 808 registered voters in New York State questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
