(CNN) - A judge has denied Tuesday a request by former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell to delay his and his wife's arraignment in federal court by one week.
The arraignment is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in Richmond.

Court papers say lawyers for McDonnell had asked for the delay because one member of the defense team "is currently out of the country at a location with no airport, from which it would be extremely difficult and expensive for him to return prior to his scheduled return time of midnight on Friday, January 24."
Judge James Spencer made the decision.
