Political circus: I'm in whatever party Biden's in

Washington (CNN) - If you watch Vice President Joe Biden, you get the impression that every day is a BFD — the D stands for "day."

And no day is bigger than the State of the Union address - which is kind of like a bizarro world high school reunion where the popular kids are the party in power and members of the minority party often look as if they’re ready to dump a bucket of pig’s blood on the prom king-president.

Lawyer: 'Evidence' disputes Christie on bridge lane closures

(CNN) - A lawyer for David Wildstein, a former top appointee of Chris Christie, says there is evidence contradicting what the New Jersey governor has said publicly about the George Washington Bridge traffic lane closures that has roiled his administration.

Wildstein resigned his position at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in December amid allegations that Christie appointees had ordered access lanes to the river crossing in Fort Lee closed to punish that town's mayor for not endorsing Christie for reelection.

McConnell has substantial fundraising advantage in Senate race

Washington (CNN) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s re-election team announced Friday that it added $2.2 million to its war chest, a sum that far outpaces the Kentucky Republican’s bipartisan challengers.

McConnell, who’s been fundraising for years with eyes on a sixth term in the Senate, has raised a total of $20 million for the race and ended 2013 with $10.9 million left in the bank.

IT’ TAPPER TIME … 4 PM ET OBAMA EXCLUSIVE ON CNN

HERE’S A SNEAK PEEK:

ON SNOWDEN:

TAPPER: “When your director of National Intelligence General James Clapper testified before Congress and said, before the Snowden leaks, that there were no mass surveillance going on a lot of Democrats in the Senate think that he was not honest. He said like – later, that it was the least untruthful answer he could give.

I know that you have faith in Clapper. I know that you believe that these programs protect the American people.

But I can't believe that you weren't disappointed by his answer, because least untruthful is not a phrase I remember hearing on the campaign trail.”

OBAMA: “I think that Jim Clapper himself would acknowledge, and has acknowledged, that he should have been more careful about how he responded.”

ON POLICY:

OBAMA: “Well, I actually think that we have a good chance of immigration reform.”

ON SOCHI:

OBAMA: “If you want to go to the Olympics, you should go to the Olympics. You know, we're not discouraging, in any way, Americans from participating in what is just always an amazing, wonderful event.”

ON MARIJUANA:

OBAMA: “I stand by my belief, based, I think, on the scientific evidence that marijuana for casual users, individual users, is subject to abuse, just like alcohol is, and should be treated as a public health problem and challenge.”

ON THE POPE:

OBAMA: “I have been really impressed so far with the way he has communicated what I think is the essence of the Christian faith and that is a true sense of brotherhood and sisterhood and a true sense of regard for those who are less fortunate … I don't think he needs any advice from me on staying humble.”

Republicans up ante, say they want debt ceiling conditions

(CNN) - House Republicans agreed Friday that they would demand conditions for raising the nation's debt ceiling, according to several sources who attended a closed-door discussion at the annual GOP strategy retreat in Cambridge, Maryland.

Extending U.S. borrowing in the early part of this year is the next potential confrontation on fiscal policy with Democrats and President Barack Obama, who has said he would not negotiate over the issue.

Obama economic adviser: Class warfare charges are 'hyperventilation'

Washington (CNN) - With the White House seizing on income inequality as a key issue ahead of this year’s midterm elections, President Barack Obama’s top economic adviser on Friday brushed off “class warfare” charges from the nation’s wealthiest citizens as “hyperventilation."

Appearing at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington, Jason Furman, Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, was asked how the administration plans to talk about inequality without stoking paranoia among the rich.

Florida ’16 poll: Christie falls farther behind Clinton while Jeb Bush gains ground

(CNN) - Another new poll from a crucial state in presidential election years indicates Gov. Chris Christie has lost support in Florida and would trail potential Democratic contender Hillary Clinton by 16 percentage points in the Sunshine State.

According to the Quinnipiac University survey, Christie has the backing of 9% of registered Republicans in the state, down from 14% in November.
