Washington (CNN) - Although nearly two-thirds of Americans still give the nation's economy a thumbs down, the percentage who rate the current economic conditions as good now stands at its highest level in six years, according to a new national poll.
And when it comes to the economic blame game, a CNN/ORC International survey released Thursday also indicates that the percentage of people who still blame former President George W. Bush and the Republicans more than President Barack Obama and the Democrats for the country's economic problems is dropping.

Thirty-six percent of those questioned rate the current economic conditions as good. That's up four percentage points from December and it is the highest level since January 2008, a year before Obama entered the White House. Sixty-four percent continue to say the economy is in poor shape.
"Economic confidence seems particularly high in the Midwest, which might give an early boost to the Democratic Party's chances of holding on to two key Senate seats in Iowa and Michigan," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
Five years into Obama's presidency, only a third of the public believes that Obama and the Democrats are primarily responsible for the country's current economic problems.
More Americans continue to blame former President Bush and the Republicans. But the number who say the GOP is more responsible - now at 44% - has dipped below the 50% mark for the first time since Bush left the White House. Fourteen percent blame both parties equally.
The CNN survey came on the eve of the release by the Labor Department of the January jobs report.
The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International from Jan. 31-Feb. 2, with 1,010 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.
CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.
@Mike
How does only 1000 people represent all of America? Not to mention people with landline phones. Doesn't make sense.

It is called a poll and it is meant to be a statistical sample. Hey, let's pull math out of the schools along with Biology and evolution!
Be sure and take a similar pole six months from now after Obamacare has further driven our economy into oblivion. We are one of the millions who have lost our insurance and can't afford Obamacare.
CNN celebrating 36%.........hahahahahahahahahahahha
No Bush is not to blame for this economy. High price of gas and the ACA is.
This Breaking News Alert just came through on my email:
The percentage of Americans who rate current economic conditions as good now stands at its highest level in six years, according to a new CNN/ORC International survey.
Thirty-six percent of those questioned rate the current economic conditions favorably. That's up four percentage points from December and is the highest level since January 2008.
Sixty-four percent continue to say the economy is in poor shape.
In other words, “The economy must be improving since not quite as large of a majority of Americans still thinks the economy sucks.”
Where is Paul Wolfowits and Ahmed Chalabi ?
I I'm still waiting for my refund .
Gee people, , you just can’t logically have it both ways. Either the President is responsible for our economy or not. You can’t (rationally) blame the past President, who had BOTH Houses of Congress controlled by the opposition for the last two years of his term, for all of our economic woes and then give the current President a pass on failing to improve the economy because he has ONE House of Congress controlled by the opposition. If you believe Bush was solely responsible for ruining our economy, then (logically) Obama must be held solely responsible responsible for not fixing it.
@jharry
No Bush is not to blame for this economy. High price of gas and the ACA is.

What grade are you in ?
Gas prices are the lowest in the world besides Saudi and the IEU .
30 years of an UNFUNDED Federal Healthcare Mandate that destroyed our Economy's Consumers?
Our first 2 UNFUNDED Wars in American History?
Borrowing ANOTHER 2 Trillion Dollars (at the same time) for a Tax Cut... that "stimulated" economic collapse?
Yep... It's all Obama's fault.
What president could NOT restore economic growth and balance...
with Decreasing Debts and Decreasing Revenue? (Piece of cake)
It should have only taken a couple of months for a President to resolve.
It's not like 70% of the GOP in Congress signed "PAC Pledges" (for Bribes)
to serve Lobbyists BEFORE their Country. (and refuse to negotiate Bi-Partisan Legislation.
Oops... I guess it was (and is) JUST like that.
Nearly two-thirds of Americans still give the nation's economy a thumbs down. lol, 6 years in, and libs are still blaming Bush, when in fact the bad mortgages were the result of liberal pressure to give mortgages to people who couldn't afford it.
CNN is becoming more like Pravda, day by day.
That idiot ,senseless Bonheur need to watch his stinky mouth, can he & his dishonest ,racist party be trusted ?2014 we will all be voting or are they planning on changing the voting laws or redistricting?GOD rules & not GOP
For people with money, the economy has been a giant cash machine since 2011.
This country will never ever be the same country before GW Bush ruined it. Look at the trillions he wasted on wars, Wall Street, and the millions of American jobs he shipped to China and India.
When he gave our Nuclear Technology to Saudi Arabia, and India, that's when he should have been charged with Treason. The needless killing of 45 hundred soldiers in Iraq would bother a person with a conscience, but George says he sleeps like a baby. This man is Sickening, and Hell is to good for him!!!
Lies, damn lies and statistics!
Wow! So 36% of the 1000 people surveyed rated the economy "good" and that's the highest level since 2008 when the economy tanked. What's really worth reporting is how low that level is after 4 years of the Obama "recovery".
YOU CAN KEEP YOUR INSURANCE: obamacare = 2.5 more americans without jobs. but-you can have insurance.
