(CNN) - Justice Clarence Thomas rarely speaks from the bench but his comments in less formal settings are often illuminating, often controversial - especially on race.
It is a topic that continues to engage the national debate, especially when it comes from the mind of the Supreme Court's only African-American jurist.

Scalia's hand puppet is speaking?
Thomas is absolutely correct. Liberals are totally obsessed by racial issues. Hypersensitive is probably the best term to describe it.
An honorable man that's about to be lambasted by the usual suspects on here. How dare he tell them about his own personal real life experiences when they know better!!
By the way Jeff, if I were Sniffit, I would accuse you of being a racist because of the "code words" you are using to describe Justice Thomas. 🙂
@???? – Thomas is absolutely correct. Liberals are totally obsessed by racial issues.

sure they are.. that's why EEOC rules had to be enforced in TX (that most librul of states) to allow minorities to be accepted into UT law school. Without that, there'd be zip!
He will always be uncle Thomas to me. Hello uncle.
Thomas is and alway's will be a not so intelligent elitist surrounded by denial .
How in the world can he sit on the Supreme court and have his wife lobby for right wing conservative ideals .
Thats similar to having the judge at your divorce sleeping with your soon to be ex-wife .
This U T is the last person that should be talking about race.
-he could ignorantly say this because he was appointed by GW Bush. What a nonsense guy this guy is. Does he know Bush picked because he has to pick one black for SC so as not to undermine his presidency? Pathetic judicial system–revamp.
When discussing race it has become obvious to even the casual observer that the NAACP is part of the DNC. Now we know how that works.
Wow !...No racism here from all you wonderful Libs!
What has also become obvious to even the casual observer is that the NAACP gets nothing from the RNC.
From the article:
Thomas spoke this week at a small gathering of students and faculty at a Florida college, where he echoed previous statements on the not-so subtle racism he remembers experiencing when leaving his native South.
"The worst I have been treated was by northern liberal elites. The absolute worst I have ever been treated," the 65-year-old justice said. "The worst things that have been done to me, the worst things that have been said about me, are by northern liberal elites, not by the people of Savannah, Georgia," his hometown.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Yet he failed to provide a SINGLE example of what those "northern liberal elites" said or what they did to him to offend his delicate sensibilities. Sounds like a bunch of hyperbole to me.

Now we know why Justice Thomas says so little. His words suggest that he's been treated badly by person(s) who are not "northern liberal elites." He's probably been mistreated by every demographic that he's come in contact with in America. including other black Americans. If he hasn't, then he's lived a very sheltered life.
I'd bet he's even been mistreated by people from good stock, too. 'd like to tell him that those frieds of his were probably only pretending to be liberals.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And how would that be, Abbey 'cause I read the ENTIRE article and there wasn't a single reference to what the
NAACP or the Dems did to him.
Abbey...pretty easy to understand why, since the GOP was coopted by the former Wallace Democrats.
@Wake Up,
Why is this African American the last person that should speak about race? Isn't he the perfect person to talk about it? An African American man growing up in the south at the peak of racism who has been an incredible success and reached the pinnacle of his industry? Is it because he doesn't fit your narrative?
Hair breath should have a Coke and stfu.
In the mind of a liberal, everyday is 1961...or most likely 1861. Quite frankly, the majority of us are sick of the incessant carping about race.
This is America. If you suck at life, it is your own fault. If you can't be successful and happy here you probably have no chance of attaining those goals somewhere else.
People like Thomas and Carson don't want to admit to the continued, pervasive existence of institutionalized racism because they are desperately narcissistic. They don't want to admit that they were the beneficiaries of decades and decades of organized collective societal efforts, including government intervention, to rid the country of racism and its trappings. Why? Because to admit that would mean in their minds that they're not the unique and special, chosen and worthy, rugged individuals who achieved everything all on their own, who stand alone, above and separate from and looking down upon the rest of the minority community. The willful ignorance exhibited by people like Thomas...their deliberate blindness to the continued and GROWING attempts to institutionalize racism in this country, which have accelerated in the past few years in response to the election of Obama and the red flags it threw up regarding ongoing demographic shifts in the electorate...is nothing more than self-serving and intellectually dishonest narcissistic delusion maintenance.
Cute, tom, but there's no obvious subtextual implied meaning for "hand puppet"...unlike Teatroll favorites such as "urban" and "thug" etc. At least try to be accurate next time.
I forgot this guy was still on the bench.
I don't appreciate you reminding me of same cnn.
But but but...DMFO, you should be so proud because he "looks" like you. Oh no wait, that's the Miami Heat who should love this guy because they "look" like him.
Sorry, had to.... 😉
"Yet he failed to provide a SINGLE example of what those "northern liberal elites" said or what they did to him to offend his delicate sensibilities. Sounds like a bunch of hyperbole to me."
He was making a not-so-veiled reference to his confirmation hearings, over which he still clearly harbors much resentment and waaaaaaaaah.
Is it because he doesn't fit your narrative?
Oh, I think he fits right into the narrative without a doubt. Probably why African Americans are so supportive of him and the republicant party... because he was so successful on his own merits without the assistance of any one else or using his race to advance himself.
A pillar of society, he is...

LOL. What can I say, I had to mention it! 🙂 I have been holed up all day as this icestorm is crushing Atlanta so maybe my wits aren't as sharp as they normally are, right? 🙂 (and, by the way, when I put a smiley face at the end, it means that I'm trying to lighten the mood a bit and just trying to have a little fun – I know Sniffit knows that but the others on here will go bats@#% crazy if I don't say something)
