First on CNN: Christie vacationing in Puerto Rico

Washington (CNN) - On the heels of a major winter storm that blanketed his state with snow, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie spent Friday at a resort in Puerto Rico with his family.

CNN was alerted to his whereabouts by a person who saw the governor poolside at a resort in San Juan.

Asked to confirm if Christie is in Puerto Rico, a spokesman for the governor said he is on a brief vacation with his family.

"After the storm had passed, the governor left the state this morning for a long weekend away with his family, and he will return Monday night," said spokesman Colin Reed.

In accordance with state protocol, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno is in charge of government business until Christie returns.

Democrats criticized Christie in December 2010 for not cutting short a family vacation to Disney World while a massive blizzard brought New Jersey to a standstill. Guadagno was also out of state at that time.

can a man not go on vacation? If the man wasn't even considering running for president, this wouldn't even make a local newspaper. New Jersey has dealt with storms much worse than this without the man at the helm running the show. Keeping my political views to the side, I would appreciate it if the media would pursue matters that take professional skill, each as foreign affairs and homeland security. In my opinion this story is not newsworthy. "Chris Christie is vacationing in Florida" is not a story. It is during a snow storm. If it wasn't snowing they would come up with some other garbage. "Chris Christie is vacationing in Florida after the bridge investigation"

Get off the guy's back. So what if he took a day off to go enjoy some peace in a warmer climate. Like you wouldn't do the same darn thing if you could afford to do it.

Are the people upset about this atrocity the same people that were PO'd at Netflix for not delivering the season premier of House of Cards a day early so that they would have something to watch while they sat through the storm?

The Christies could have stayed at one of the resorts in the Fajardo area and hiked up and down the mountain in El Yunque National Rainforest,at NJ taxpayer and bondholder expense of course!

Since Christie's goose is half cooked, he might as well finish the roast.

    This is stupid.

Obama spent is winter break in Hawaii visiting troops.
When Bush was president, he went to Afghanistan to visit troops.

Reading liberal media is like listening to pre-schoolers debate on which power ranger is the best.

Big deal!! If Christie is doing his job, he already has delegated people in positions to be able to handle the snow storm. His presense in New Jersey will not hinder Mother nature from doing her duty to lay a blanket of the white stuff

Seriously – who cares. All politicians take vacations and unless you can prove this was planned after the snow threat this is NO news.

He should take a vacation because everything is functioning great in New Jersey and he is so effective that nothing needs to be done at this time.

How did he know it was Christie at poolside? Hope the Puerto Ricans don't close any bridges that will impede his travel.

Gee CNN. Have you checked out the disaster the extreme liberal Deval Patrick is in Massachusetts? It's a disaster with the trails of dead bodies, but yet not a word from CNN!

Ok so what's the point. Stop posting BS stories where there is no story. The storm is over, most of the snow has melted and there is no state of emergency.

He's not a lot different than Obama with the Benghazi issue! Birds of a feather you know!

I'm not a fan of Christie, but, who cares that he's on vacation? All politicians take them, and much of the time something happens to make it "the wrong time." As long as the L.G. around, I don't see the problem.

So, Christie is on a weekend getaway with his family and a snow storm hits – oh the horror!!!! Where was Obama when our people were killed in Benghazi? This is stupid.

Excellent choice for a safe, close, getaway to tropical paradise. Puerto Rico is owned by the USA and the weather is always very nice.
