Florida congressman calls Obamacare 'a breach of faith' for seniors

Washington (CNN) - Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Florida, slammed President Obama for not doing his part to help lower health care costs for older Americans, calling his health care promises a "breach of faith" for seniors.

"Across the country, millions of seniors are now paying more money for fewer choices, less access and far less peace of mind," Rooney said. "This goes well beyond a glitch or a pocketbook issue. This is a breach of faith."

Citing examples of seniors in Florida and across the country losing access to specialists and primary care physicians, Rooney asserts that the president's failure to uphold his "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" promise has hit seniors particularly hard.

"Because of the President's health care law, I'm hearing from seniors in my district who have already lost their doctors," Rooney said. "In Florida's heartland, seniors are now forced to drive an hour or more just to see a primary care doctor, let alone a specialist."

In November, President Obama acknowledged problems with the roll-out of the healthcare.gov website and offered a one-year extension to Americans with cancelled health plans, despite insurance industry warnings that doing so may lead to higher premiums down the road.

Delivering Saturday's Republican weekly address, Rooney called on Obama to develop a plan to minimize coverage gaps for seniors, a request he says has already been made by senior Republican leaders in a letter they sent to the President on Thursday.

"After all the assurances he gave older Americans," Rooney said, "shouldn't the President develop a plan to address the problems his law is causing them?"

Rooney also urged the GOP to continue to work together to repeal Obamacare, saying, "few promises are more sacred than the ones we make to older Americans ... We pledge to do our part, and now we ask the President to do his."

As a senior in Florida my insurance costs have gone down; so I don't believe a politician who has no first-hand experience.

This is a total lie! Seniors have Medicare, and have absolutely NO part in ACA.
    --

Except for the $700 BILLION that was stolen from Medicare to pay for Obamacare. please enough with the lies.

The breach of faith is not the ACA, it's the Republican Party trying to privatize Social Security and making more cuts to Medicare. We Americans over 65 years of age are obviously as disliked by the GOP as blacks and Hispanics.

More like a breach of contract, between the government and the seniors who paid Medicare taxes, all of their lives.
    ______________
Unlike the hypocrites like Ryan who would simply end Social Security and Medicare, right Rick?
Do you make this stuff up yourself, or does someone write it down for you?
    ---

You accuse others of making stuff up??? Now that is hilarious. Nobody, absolutely nobody, ever talked about ending Social Security and/or Medicaid. When will the lies of Obama and his sycophants on he left ever end???

Are you going to deny that the ONLY cut made to Medicare was made by Obama and the Democrats to PAY FOR OBAMACARE?

Sorry, Ricky- Read the Ryan budget and look at the GOP platform: Privatize Social Security and cut Medicare are there in big bold letters.

Idiot Dems here, don't even know all of the impact Obama has had on Medicare. Instead of sucking up to Obama.......why not investigate some truth for a change?????

ObamaCare has changed a lot about how Medicare s working, and almost all of those changes are NEGATIVE to seniors.

You remember that "death panel" discussion? That was absolutely the truth.
    ______________
Sorry, Rick, "Death Panels" was a Palin delusion- it didn't exist then and it doesn't now. Take your meds.

Threats to actually end it? That is debatable. There have been many plans put forward that if enacted would bring about the end of one if not both either very quickly or over a period of a few years. For anybody to actually come forward and say end it....well that would be political suicide. No need for that when there are much more subtle methods. And by the way....I don't believe there was 700 billion STOLEN from medicare. I think they stated right up front what was going to happen. So, as you said, enough of the lies.

Well thank you for being honest and admitting Obamacare STOLE $700 BILLION from Medicare to pay for Obamacare. Stating up front you intend to steal the money does not change the fact that it was theft. So the ONLY people that have EVER cut Medicare are the Democrats and Obama. Remember that seniors come this November.

Tommy – There was a savings of $700 billion in the ACA. Nothing was stolen.
