5 reasons why climate change is back in the news

Washington (CNN) - In the space of 48 hours, Secretary of State John Kerry likened climate change to a weapon of mass destruction, Newt Gingrich called Kerry delusional, Sunday talk shows argued about it and President Barack Obama announced another executive action to combat it.

After what seemed like a lull in political focus on the issue, why is everyone talking about it this week?

We are changing the world. People should think of it this way: if we were put in a sealed box and lit a small fire, then we would have a chance to know what we are doing to the planet. I think that is what most people don't understand.

For the informed (and perhaps those who are educated and believe science) global warming was never out of the news. The Republican delusion about global warming, THAT'S back in the news.

I don't know, the weather we have been having (storms, blizzards, drought) and few want to listen to reason.
The biggest mistake Gore made was calling it global "warming" because those for whom science is fiction think that thee extreme temperatures have nothing to do with "warming".
I applaud our President for taking charge of trying to make much needed changes to save our planet, teaklans/repugs and all the bible thumping right wing nutsos.
BTW – seems that camels were not domesticated at the time some of the passages were written so somebody made a big boo boo. Oops!

And I will ask again. Why has the term "Global Warming" use been reduced, and "Climate Change" now being used? So that when the warming trend (with human interaction or not) stopped, the argument could continue.

This issue is like someone thinking they can cheat death. Our planet has a life cycle and no matter what humans do it will come to an end. The people all up in arms need to help themselves to an ecology book. Not saying we shouldn`t try an curb polution, but curb it without hurting ourselves in the process.

lesson folks, we are looking at a planet that is diseased by men. this planet has aids. yes this planet is alive, and its fighting like hell to not go the way of mars. man and their money hungry ways are choking this planet to death. i wonder if a thousand years from now, our blue planet will be circling the sun as a pile of rock, when trillionairs want to go to the next level.

Climate change is so vivid, obvious. GOP, rethuglicans got to be delusional–they just want to cry on Obamacare, then Obama, the, Benghazi, and now climate change. They are losing grounds, base–poor idiots. USA needs to do something about climate change–also India, China too with Europe. Climate is changing–India records 130 degree centigrade most of the times.

Only anti-science dimwits, many of whom hail from the Southern talk radio crowd think that global warming is just a myth. These mental midgets somehow think that buffoons like Rush Limbaugh or Ted Nugent know more about climate change than climatologists.

Newt Gingrich's demand that Sec'y Kerry resign reflect the myopic type of short term therm that I see so many conservatives display. They never seemed concerned about a Plan B, only the here and now. "What do I need a Plan B for when I am busy with Plan A?" "When I finish Plan A I won't need a Plan B." "Plan A eliminates the need for Plan B."

I think long term goals are just as important as short term goals, if not more so. Long term goals usually set the tone and direction for long term goals. The same is true about most everything. Long term risks and dangers cannot be ignored because your attention is consumed by short term risks and dangers.

It's a convenient diversion for a failed adminstration and it's 41%-approval-rate leader. Nothing else... and it's not going to work.

If TEA/GOP had been listening to climate scientists for the last 30 yrs, instead of a pill-popping, loud-mouthed, drug smuggler's radio show, they would know that what is happening now is exactly what the scientists have always predicted. The 3% of "scientists" so often cited by TEA/GOP work for the oil/coal industry. No wonder conservatives are always trying to hide info. Popular Science, in its June 2012 issue, has a very informative article about the deniers. This includes the name ,and history, of the public relations firm, and the individual agents, who run deniers campaign, and who puts up the $ that pays for it. It also tells of he harassment, death threats, and nuisance lawsuits against individual scientists. The article also exposes the abuse of power by Koch roach puppet, James Inhoff(R) Oklahoma, calling them before his congressional committee for using their free speech freedoms. Read the article, instead of listening to no-nothings.

I agree completely. The "burning" question becomes however, what do we do if it becomes clear we must change our ways (i.e. "hurt" ourselves) in order for the planet to survive?
