Newt Gingrich to John Kerry: Resign

Updated 6:44 p.m. ET, 2/18/2014

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich is amplifying his call for Secretary of State John Kerry to resign over his comments that climate change represents the biggest challenge “of our generation.”

"I think it's very troubling that our secretary of state … believes that climate change is a greater danger than a nuclear war," Gingrich said Tuesday in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”

The CNN Crossfire co-host and former House speaker took to Twitter on Monday night, writing that "Every American who cares about national security must.demand Kerrey's (sic) resignation.A delusional secretary of state is dangerous to our safety."

Gingrich said he was “quite prepared to defend the argument that nuclear war is a far bigger threat to our society than is climate change.”

On Sunday, Kerry delivered one of the strongest speeches on climate change by any American official while visiting Indonesia, which has lost more than 40% of its tropical forests that store carbon absorbed from the atmosphere.

Kerry said "climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction." He also called it "the greatest challenge of our generation."

Gingrich added in his CNN interview that Kerry was not a senator just giving “some wild speech to please the left,” noting that the top U.S. diplomat should be held to a "higher level of seriousness."

CNN has reached out to the State Department for reaction to Gingrich's comments.

Very funny that Mr. Gingrich is the climate change denier and because of that wants Kerry to resign. Sure, Mr. Gingrich, let's just keep messin' the place up until we cant drink the water or breath the air- kinda like your types are doing in West Virginia or North Carolina, right?

Kerry is correct; Water will become more precious than oil, and as the globe continues to dry out while water demands increase, terroism and wars will be waged for water.

They ought to change from the elephant to the hippo...

Meanwhile, a delusional Newt Gingrich is really only a threat to the weak minded, who think he has anything important to say.
Maybe they ought to change from elephant to mastadon.

I think if we solve the challenge of the tea party by removing them from Washington, most of the other challenges will resolve themselves accordingly.

Gingrich is another has-been politician trying to recapture a moment in the spotlight by making ridiculous statements.

A few months back on Crossfire Newt called for the firing of one of Obama's advisors and Newt faced a embarrassing moment when he was told "let's not talk about who should be fired because Newt you've done enough to be fired". Newt didn't open his mouth and obviously hasn't learner from that. I hope CNN replays that tape back to Newt and fire him.

Newt should talk to the people of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who lost everything in Hurricane Sandy, or the people of New Orleans, or the people of northern Japan, about what a "joke" climate change is to them. It won't matter one damn what terrorists have in store for us if we're getting wiped out by massive superstorms or crippling droughts or huge wildfires. Think about it, Newt. In fact, the way China is going, we won't have to do anything to them – their smog and air pollution is so bad that they'll be doing themselves in within a generation.

If Climate change deniers are correct, we lose a small number of jobs; if they are wrong, we lose the planet as we know it and unleash who knows what world-wide chaos. Looks like the potential loss from denial far outweighs the potential gain.

  20. Its Simple

This is simply politics. Conservatives generally deny global warming or don't give it much credit because it is just another silly expense to them.

I would have used this post in order to demand Mr Gingrich's immediate resignation.... but, luckily, Newt Gingrich DOESN'T HOLD ANY ELECTED OR APPOINTED OFFICE!!! Keep sounding off, Mr Gingrich, nobody cares.

Funny, since Newt starred with Nancy Pelosi of all people on at least two ads talking about the importance of climate change just 5 years ago. It's easily found on you tube when you search "Newt Gingrich Nancy Pelosi". It's hilarious. Newt claims to have come to his $$$$senses since then, or at least his big donors have convinced him so. Ugh.

When the term global warming no longer applies change it to climate change. Much more harder to disprove considering the climate is always changing. Florida is the only state in the union without snow. Climate change is right.
