Newt Gingrich to John Kerry: Resign

Updated 6:44 p.m. ET, 2/18/2014

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich is amplifying his call for Secretary of State John Kerry to resign over his comments that climate change represents the biggest challenge “of our generation.”

"I think it's very troubling that our secretary of state … believes that climate change is a greater danger than a nuclear war," Gingrich said Tuesday in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”

The CNN Crossfire co-host and former House speaker took to Twitter on Monday night, writing that "Every American who cares about national security must.demand Kerrey's (sic) resignation.A delusional secretary of state is dangerous to our safety."

Gingrich said he was “quite prepared to defend the argument that nuclear war is a far bigger threat to our society than is climate change.”

On Sunday, Kerry delivered one of the strongest speeches on climate change by any American official while visiting Indonesia, which has lost more than 40% of its tropical forests that store carbon absorbed from the atmosphere.

Kerry said "climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction." He also called it "the greatest challenge of our generation."

Gingrich added in his CNN interview that Kerry was not a senator just giving “some wild speech to please the left,” noting that the top U.S. diplomat should be held to a "higher level of seriousness."

CNN has reached out to the State Department for reaction to Gingrich's comments.

John Kerry to Newt Gingrich: Kiss my swiftboat. Does anyone really care what a has-been who was convicted of ethics violations thinks about anything? Why did CNN hire him?

Newt G. does not matter in this day and age. He has no relevance to today's world. I have no idea why the media pays this has-been any attention whatsoever.

Yeah something that 97% of scientists agree will lead to the end of the human race unless we do something about it... Meanwhile, 97% of Joe Blows from bumpkinville don't agree. I'll take my chances with the experts, some of the smartest people in our world. Scary that this nutjob Gingrich type can even make issue with FACTS, such as man-made climate change.

I agree with Newt Gingrich. Outside of a great hairdo and expensive suits, John Kerry has very little to offer to the American people and the world.

In 2012, we had about a dozen delusional GOP candidates for President. Newt was one of them. I even heard people refer ot the 'clown car' of Republican Presidential hopefuls.

It was Kerry's expressed position on the alleged human rights violations in N. Korea that call into question his integrity and intentions. There is no way short of war that the US or anyone can influence what goes on there.
His words are empty hyperbolic threats to a young leader who thrives on such reckless provocations. If Kerry were in fact concerned with human rights abuses, he would push to stop funding the rebels in Syria, a large number of whom are ISIS fighters whose methods of intimidation are so ruthless that they have been disowned by al Qaeda.

I respect politicians who fight for their beliefs – even if I don't agree with them. But this is an example of something completely different – this isn't about truth -its about politics. Even my republican friends are recanting on global warming – even if they listen to Fox. Its obvious that the anti-warming craze is a short term business issue. Can we please have credible people rather than people who are only politically driven quoted here? Its obvious by the other comments there that the vast majority of your readers know that the anti-global warming contingent are perpetrating a scam. Please don't waste our time with this stuff.

Not a Newt Gingrich fan but his criticism of John Kerry is justified – actually, not critical enough. John Kerry was living in a shoe box until he met his current wife, the Ketchup Queen worth millions – the opportunistic Kerry quickly latched on to her and moved out of his 1BR apt and the rest is history John Kerry is a traitor, stabbed his Viet Nam buddies in the back at public hearings – a true nutcase – far left progressive in ideology. His latest tirade in favor of global warming just another example. Used to think nobody could be worse than the corrupt bloated Hag Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State – but Kerry actually makes her look good.

Does anybody with a working brain give a darn what Newt Gingrich' opinion is on any matter whatsoever? Why does CNN or any other station have a disgraced and opinionated jackass on air. He is only good for pontificating and self-promoting.

99% of the comments are against Newt. Shows how wrong he is. Don't know why CNN keeps him without sending him to FOX like other crazies

The science of climate change, including human contribution to it, is confirmed by any measure by which such things are measured. It is not arrogance or political motivation that drives this conclusions, it is data. Science will indeed change it's conclusion if further data collection drives it to, because that's what science does. I won't call those who deny human-assisted climate change "delusional", just anti-science.

Kerry was wrong. Newt Gingrich is more dangerous than climate change. This acolyte of Lee Atwater is largely responsible for the incivility and obstructionism in Washington DC today. And what does CNN do? It gives him a TV show.

    Oh noes! Gingrich is mad!

Umm… who cares? Gingrich is a useless toadie (or perhaps a "newtie?") whose opinion is worth, well, nothing.
