Newt Gingrich to John Kerry: Resign

Updated 6:44 p.m. ET, 2/18/2014

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich is amplifying his call for Secretary of State John Kerry to resign over his comments that climate change represents the biggest challenge “of our generation.”

"I think it's very troubling that our secretary of state … believes that climate change is a greater danger than a nuclear war," Gingrich said Tuesday in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room.”

The CNN Crossfire co-host and former House speaker took to Twitter on Monday night, writing that "Every American who cares about national security must.demand Kerrey's (sic) resignation.A delusional secretary of state is dangerous to our safety."

Gingrich said he was “quite prepared to defend the argument that nuclear war is a far bigger threat to our society than is climate change.”

On Sunday, Kerry delivered one of the strongest speeches on climate change by any American official while visiting Indonesia, which has lost more than 40% of its tropical forests that store carbon absorbed from the atmosphere.

Kerry said "climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction." He also called it "the greatest challenge of our generation."

Gingrich added in his CNN interview that Kerry was not a senator just giving “some wild speech to please the left,” noting that the top U.S. diplomat should be held to a "higher level of seriousness."

CNN has reached out to the State Department for reaction to Gingrich's comments.

Newt knows as much about climate change as he does about marital fidelity and loyalty.

Why does the news media insist on broadcasting the whacky opinions of pinheads like Gingrich and Sarah Palin? One was thrown out of office by his own party and the other couldn't even finish out an entire term as a Governor.

Let us throw trillions of dollars, time and energy at our 4% of the world carbon emissions and have China, India and Russia spend 0$ on the problem and in doing so not produce an effective solution. Oh by the way, I've had to shovel away global warming from my driveway 7 times in 2014 already.

I have to say Kerry's speech was way out in koo koo land. Climate change is happening but not even close to "the greatest challenge of our generation." Mind-numbingly silly on Kerry's part as a Secretary of State.

I'm okay with his comment. Anything Newt can do to further ruin the reputation of Republicans is perfectly fine by me.

I missed the Ted Nugent topic, but did he call the POTUS a subhuman mongrel?? Wow. We've known people feel that way but damn if it don't hurt to hear someone that people look up to say it.

Say what you want about us, but I thank God we don't raise our children to hate people that look different from them. This saddens me so much. How will we ever get rid of racism with people like this being put on a pedestal?

John Kerry and Mr. Obama are dangerous to the United States of America....instead of solving any problem before them they create 30 different topics to cause chaos in this country and abroad, people "feel" that they are concerned about each topic....they keep going from topic or problem to another,to another , to another till no one in this country knows what they "stand for....they create confusion among the population, tells them he understands their frustration, shows sympathy, gives their opinion ,but again never solve any problems,,,then obama goes and plays golf, and blames congress for not working with him,but he never discusses anything with congress.....I do not need a person that people" feel" good about ,I need a President to run this country and solve problems...these two people do not have these qualities

Newt is the only thing CNN has going for it and is right on the money about John Kerry. He's an embarrassment to us and the nation.

Newt Gingrich has always been Mr. Irrelvvant to me. The man who brought about the chasm between the formerly collegial Republican and Democratic Parties demonstrated his commitment to our nation during the Vietnam War. Secretary Kerry, on the other hand, served honorably, and he continues to do so. Politics, economics, or climate change, nothing Newt says influences those either opposed to his views or sitting on the fence.

Why do media people think they should pay attention to Gingrich? He has no credibility. He's as ignorant as they come. He is an embarrassment to every American. If the media people will stop paying attention to him, he just might go away and that would be good for everyone.

Just another reason a Republican president will not hold office in 2016. Others: religion, immigration, women's rights, gay rights guns, huntin', and, "God Bless America." Climate change ain't real? Really? But, does it matter when you are waiting on the Rapture?
