Palin backs Abbott after Nugent appearance, endorses Sessions' challenger

(CNN) - Sarah Palin rallied Wednesday behind Texas attorney general Greg Abbott, endorsing the Republican gubernatorial hopeful and defending Abbott for appearing on the campaign trail this week with controversial rocker Ted Nugent.

"If he is good enough for Ted Nugent, he is good enough for me!" the former Alaska governor wrote on Facebook.

Nugent, a fierce gun rights activist who's known for making outlandish comments about President Obama, campaigned with Abbott at two events Monday. Democrats pointed to some of Nugent's past controversial remarks in an effort to discredit Abbott.

The campaign for Abbott, however, acknowledged it was simply inviting Nugent to help turn out the base during early voting, which began Monday.

Abbott lacks a major GOP opponent in the March 4 primary.

In the same Facebook post, which marked her first endorsements for 2014 GOP primaries, she encouraged voters to support Katrina Pierson, who's challenging nine-term Republican Rep. Pete Sessions.

"Katrina Pierson is an emerging leader and important voice for the future of the grassroots conservative movement," the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee wrote.

Pierson, a conservative activist with tea party support, is a strong backer of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, has helped campaign for Pierson, who lags far behind Sessions in campaign cash.

The congressman appeared to brush off Pierson's primary challenge, telling CNN earlier this month on Capitol Hill that "these things happen."

Asked if he was worried about the challenge, Sessions repeated that "these things happen."

Sessions represents the Lone Star State's 32nd congressional district, a solidly Republican district located around North Dallas.

CNN's Deirdre Walsh, Paul Steinhauser, Peter Hamby and Dana Bash contributed to this report.

Wolf Blitzer is not campaigning for anyone. But he is covering the news of the ugly hateful words that spew from Ted Nugent's racist mouth. He really has the same problem as a lot of other republicans who talk about being great Christians and then you see who they hang out with and hear the hate they use when talking about President Obama and Democrats.

So you don't consider calling the POTUS a subhuman mongrel to be racist Darrell? Sure you do and you agree with him. Just so you know when you racists try to disguise your racism, it doesn't work. You people think everyone is as slow as you are.

I love it, everything that Palin touches turns to She-It. Sure loss for Abbott. Then he also has Racist Radical Ted Nugent stomping for him. Shouldn't the three of them be attending those KKK meetings instead of trying to destroy our country with their extremist Domestic Taliban Terrorist rhetoric???. A double whammy for ole Abbott. Kiss that election Good

Great words Ted – you truly describe the traitor in the Whitehouse as he really is "subhuman mongrel" – I like that! Really want that man impeached, convicted, imprisoned before his term is over – and all of his laws and executive orders/rules revoked so America can be strong again and people can get back to work!

I don't see how calling a man of mixed ethnicity parentage a "sub-human mongrel" cannot be considered a racist comment. How do you defend a statement like that? You want to call the man a communist, fine. You want to call him a failure, fine, but how his performance as President is related in any way to his heritage or ethnicity is beyond me.

Nugent and Dunn.....does anyone doubt that Nugent would have blasted 10 shots into that vehicle just like Dunn did? After all it was thug music and he was "threatened".........and now Dunn is the new rock star of the far right.....I guess the next election will spell out just how rascist our country really is

Draft dodger, "adopted" underage girl since he couldn't marry her, deadbeat dad, and a bigot. I can't think of a better person to represent the Republican party.

No surprise that the airhead from Wasilla thinks he a great guy.

Is nugent getting some on the side from this piece of human excrement?
@bassman, she is a patriot? Did you know she and that eunuch husband of hers belonged to the AK independent party, before Obama ever though of becoming president, and ne of their main goals was to secede from the Union?
You call that patriot? This woman is 100% certifiable psycho and so are her followers.
There's more to a real woman than looks and hers are starting to sag and wrinkle all over.
She's a leech who was dropped from outer space because even space aliens couldn't stand that noise that comes from her mouth!

Funny how that works... Our president snorted coke, smoked weed and God knows what else... hung around stoners and an admitted freeking terrorist... and that was all Ok. But democrats go nuts when someone like Nuge endorses a republican? My God people, can you say hypocrisy? Can you see just how unintelligent this makes you look?

Bassman, she should have posted a picture of the AK. Governor. She could call it " those who work in the second half of my term. " yep, she's all about the principal. Course, she won't turn down the interest, either.

Palin is a foolish woman because she hasn't a real clue as to what is going on. She needs to get a more informed education because she doesn't know enough and the little she knows is often not complete and wrong.

  20. Bert riddle me this. How in the good lord's name can anyone, ANYONE consider this woman a hero? What has she ever done except spout off about absolute nonsense

And I'm sorry but the conservative base is so incredibly racist and it is so engrained in their belief system, at the cellular level, that they have no idea that they are! They pipe off constantly making blatantly racist remarks and then swear they didn't! All the while the rest of the world, THAT'S WORLD PEOPLE, sits back and shakes it's head in disbelief! It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad!

I hope the GOP keeps backing buffoons like Ted Nugent. Any opposing party is a shoe-in for the next election. The GOP is going down in history as the flagship of ignorance. They just don't get it. They believe the reason why they lost the last 2 elections was because they weren't bigoted enough, they weren't racist enough, sexist enough. I guess they feel this time they'll put it right out front. They want people to see they are "proud" to be a bigot, and that's what will make them special.

Now there's a pair to draw to. Ted Nugent's claim to fame was never intellect but musical ability. Sarah Palin's claim to fame was degrading herself in a women's beauty pageant. When I went to college we elected a real live pig for homecoming queen. There you are two pigs in a poke!
Along with Cruz, Christy, and the like – Dems get more & more stronger.

Palin backing Pierson who has been arrested is clear lack of judgement Pierson lying about Sessions and his record is shameful. This man helped 200 Republicans all over the country so Rrepublicans could be in the majority and have multiple chairmen in the Texas delegation. He is a non stop Conservative being challenged by a nut
