Romney weighs in, Obama silent on Arizona SB1062

(CNN) - Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has joined calls from key Republicans urging Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to veto legislation that critics say would codify discrimination against gays and lesbians in that state.

Romney's message followed tweets from Arizona's Republican senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, urging Brewer to reject SB1062, which would allow businesses in the state to refuse service to gays and lesbians based on religious beliefs.

By contrast, President Barack Obama, who has evolved into one of the nation's leading proponents of gay rights, has yet to personally weigh in on the legislation.

Asked about the Arizona bill by reporters, White House Spokesman Jay Carney described SB 1062 as a "pretty intolerant proposed law."

"As a practice, we don't generally weigh in on every piece of legislation under consideration in the states," Carney said.

"I think the President's position on equality for LGBT Americans and opportunity for all is very well known. And he believes that all of us, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity should be treated fairly and equally, with dignity and respect," Carney added.

Just as Dick Cheney was ahead of Obama on gay marriage, Romney is ahead of Obama on this silly bill.

"Myth" Romney SPEAKS! The GOP irrelevancy poster-boy has graciously bestowed upon us yet another gem of political wisdom - and he's not even running for office! (or is he?)

Well, it does not surprise me. Everyone including Romney will do whatever necessary to keep themselves in
office. I wonder what the Morman stance is on gay marriage?

I believe that says it all. Why would any republican follow the advice of Mitt Romney, the guy who lost an election that no one else could have lost.

The president is silent because he has incompetent advisors. they probably told him to be quiet so as not to aggravate the developments in AZ...... The fact is, EVERYONE is against that law because it is the most ridiculous law ever created in modern times.

Unbelievable! A few Republicans are actually learning something. Come on Republicans you have a lot of colleagues, not the lest of whom is Jan Brewer, to convince that discrimination is wrong.

Brewer won't sign it. Why would she willingly destroy tourism in her state even if she hates gays as much as the rest of her Republican base?

Sad how all Democrats and far too many Republicans are more concerned about protecting the perverted lifestyle choices of gays, than the constitutionally protected freedom of Christians and businessmen. The relentless march of the godless agenda of the far left will destroy our nation.

Fining someone for their religious beliefs is NOT treating them fairly, nor Constitutionally either.

obama isnt a supporter of gay rights . the republicans defense of marriage act being shot down by the supreme court is the only reason that obama pretends to support gay people now . he was on record a few years ago as not supporting gay marriage . republicans pretending to now is just as funny but not expected . obama probably thinks democrats can still rely on the gay vote by default but the gay vote isnt the black vote . since neither side actually supported them this isnt even a real talking point . but its funny to see fox news act like it always support gay people this year
