Add another name to the House retirement list

Washington (CNN) - Another longtime member of Congress is calling it quits.

Democratic Rep. Ed Pastor of Arizona announced Thursday that he will retire at end of the year rather than run for re-election in November.

Attorney General Eric Holder hospitalized

(CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder was hospitalized Thursday after experiencing faintness and shortness of breath, the Justice Department said.

The hospitalization is a precautionary measure, and the attorney general is in "good condition," the department said.

Top tea party group celebrates five years

Washington (CNN) - The Tea Party Patriots, one of the largest groups in the grassroots conservative movement, hosted a fifth anniversary celebration Thursday in the nation's capital, marking five years of change in the country's political climate.

With a string of speakers, the event focused on the movement’s milestones, such as the 2010 takeover of the House of Representatives and the re-energizing effect the tea party had on right-leaning political activists.

Clinton: Voters under 'assault'

Washington (CNN) - The Democratic Party is showcasing former President Bill Clinton to help launch a new program to expand voters' access to polls.

An announcement Thursday by the Democratic National Committee comes as the party committee kicks off its Winter Meeting here in the nation's capital. During three days of meetings, the DNC has its eyes on this year's midterm elections, as the party aims to hold onto its majority in the Senate, attempts the extremely challenging effort to recapture control of the House of Representatives, and tries to make gains in governors' offices.

Nutrition labels to get makeover for first time in 20 years

Washington (CNN) – The Obama administration is hoping to make healthy eating easier for Americans by announcing a makeover for all nutrition labels on pre-packaged foods.

The Food and Drug Administration’s proposed new rules would be the first upgrade in 20 years and would include changing the serving size and updating the recommended daily guidelines for various nutrients.

The guidelines will be announced on Thursday by first lady Michelle Obama in an event at the White House.
