Palin on Ukraine: I told you so

(CNN) - Sarah Palin may be having a bragging rights moment.

In 2008, when she was the GOP vice presidential nominee, Palin questioned in a speech whether then-Sen. Barack Obama would have the foreign policy credentials to handle a scenario in which Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine.

"After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence – the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next," she said in Reno, Nevada on October 21, 2008.

The former Alaska governor was happy to highlight her prediction on Friday and scold those who criticized her 2008 comments.

"Yes, I could see this one from Alaska," she said on Facebook. That remark was a reference to a 2008 interview in which Palin argued that Alaska's proximity to Russia helped boost her foreign policy experience.

Saturday Night Live parodied her remarks in a now-famous sketch with Tina Fey, who played Palin on the show, saying "I can see Russia from my house."

On Facebook, Palin continued to explain how she anticipated a growing crisis between Russia and Ukraine, where there has now been an uncontested arrival of Russian military forces by air at a Russian base in Ukraine's Crimea region. They are believed to be Russian land forces, according to a U.S. assessment.

Political tension grows in Ukraine's Crimea region

"I'm usually not one to Told-Ya-So, but I did, despite my accurate prediction being derided as 'an extremely far-fetched scenario' by the 'high-brow' Foreign Policy magazine."

In October 2008, Foreign Policy labeled Palin's prediction as "strange."

From Russia, no love for Yanukovych

If the right disrespected Hillary like the left disrespects Sarah, the left would go nuts trying to discredit and destroy those criticizing poor Hillary. Based on Hillary's [non]performance as Secretary of State, it is becoming evident that Mrs. Palin could and would run circles around Mrs. Clinton.

Keep up good work, Ms. Palin, showing the world who the Americans really are. Russia did not invade Georgia, Georgia attacked South Ossetia and started ethnic cleansing of the local population, killed the peacekeepers, when Russia had to intervene –– read the report of your own government's CIA on the subject.

Many predicitons have come to past during the Obama presidency, most of them catastrophic. However, those on the socialist side of the spectrum belittle themselves limiting their comments to personal attacks. To them I say, Palin knows how many states there are in our nation...

Once again the BIGGEST LIAR OF THE YEAR shows what a weak non-leader he is. Putin knows Obammy will give a few speeches and DO NOTHING. Face it Obammy cant even open a web site. What an embarrassment Obambo has been.

Sarah, thank you for always adding comedic relief to a world crisis. A shining example of GOP leadership.

I thought her prediction was nutty at the time, but I guess she knew. I wouldn't want war with Russia under a competent administration, much less this one. No good will come of this, and due to President Amateur Hour and his cronies, we'll be in a much worse position than we were previously.

Um... There are allot of told you so's to go around. You don't have to be a strategic genius to figure out the next move of Putin after the invasion of Georgia! Whether or not you like what Obama does next, we all saw it coming! !

I'll give that one, but that pales in comparison to Biden saying there is no way Iran will get a nuke, he talks to his buddy bibi.

Wow, it only took 6 years for Palin's prophecy to come true. She's the new Nostradamus of the right-wingnuts!

The wo-man is a raving clueless person. We should have never spend a dime on funding coups in Georgia or Ukraine. In Eurasia, you want a strong Russia to counterweight exploding Chinese influence, but U.S. politicians are very short-sighted, often due to lack of quality education.

Obama is weak, Obama is a coward. Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela and Cuba will all act in their own self interests without fear of the United States.

@ Frank Will: "If Palin was president"??? When did she run? Oh right. She ran from her governor's post half way through her term and ran her mouth since without actually doing anything.

First of all EVERYBODY saw this coming. Second, the situation is in it's infancy, why don't all you haters wait a see what happens before you condemn. If Putin really does have designs on taking the Ukraine by force, he's going to make enemies of most of the free world. There are lots of cards to play here. He likely just wants to use the situation to gain some sort of leverage or to look tough.

Judging from the 15 responses and the brain dead trying to spin how smart Obama is and how dumb Palin is, I think Palin has shown herself far more rational and grounded in reality than the liar-in-chief. How much better off the nation would be if some rational person were President is hard to quantify. The religious faithful can never be swayed so reality must grab them by the throat.
    By the way, RIP CNN.

    LOVE YOU, SARAH.
What's amazing is that, no matter how many times Mrs. Palin proves herself far more cogent and thoughtful on policy – ANY policy than that fool in the white house, the obot haters put her down as being stupid. If Sarah is stupid then barack is a total dunce.

She lacks exactly what she accuses her opponents of– that's on page 1 of Karl Rove's playbook. Make your weaknesses their weaknesses.

It is no surprise that there are people on here still snarling Palin, but they don't address the fact that she was, once again, correct in her assertion and that was 6 years ago. Looks like she understands the world stage more than the community organizer In chief. Callangr to any of the snarks here... Prove any one of your childish beliefs about Mrs. Palin, then go ahead and follow it up with something profound.
