Ben Carson: The U.S. is like 'Nazi Germany'

(CNN) - Ben Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon and a popular figure among conservatives, compared the United States to the Third Reich in an interview.

Asked to elaborate on his previous comments about the U.S. living in "a Gestapo age," the conservative firebrand argued the country has become "very much like Nazi Germany."

"I know you're not supposed to say Nazi Germany, but I don't care about political correctness," he said in an interview Monday with the conservative news outlet Breitbart.

His comments came at the New York Meeting, a gathering of conservative politicians, journalists and business leaders.

Carson, who came in third in the GOP presidential nomination straw poll at last week's Conservative Political Action Conference, has been a fierce critic of the administration on the IRS controversy. The tax agency admitted last year to scrutinizing conservative political groups, though it maintains the error was not done out of political bias.

"You had the government using its tools to intimidate the population," Carson said. "We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe."

The neurosurgeon gained political fame after he publicly criticized some of President Barack Obama's policies in front of the President at last year's National Prayer Breakfast.

He quickly became a GOP star and was sometimes mentioned as a potential presidential candidate.

But he lost some of that star power after making controversial comments last year. In one instance he compared the federal health care law to "slavery."

And he sparked strong backlash when he equated homosexuality with pedophilia and bestiality during a television interview about same-sex marriage. Facing loud opposition, he apologized and withdrew from speaking gigs at Johns Hopkins medical school and an event for the American Academy of Physicians Assistants.

As proven by last week's straw poll results at CPAC, however, Carson still has support among the conservative wing of the base.

In the interview Monday, Carson said people are afraid to speak "because of the PC police," and he blamed politicians as well as the news media.

"All of these things are combining to stifle people's conversations," he said.

He argued that if people "are afraid to talk," they'll never reach consensus and they'll grow further apart. "That's exactly what's happening, creating a horrible schism that will destroy our nation if we don't fix it."

Asked if he was interested in a White House bid, Carson said "I wouldn't mind going as a visitor."

The GOP is simply insane. Nazi Germany? Really? Meanwhile Mr. Carson, which party wants laws enshrining discrimination? The ending of Civil Rights and Voting Rights? Who's the Nazi?

Your comment proves that you are no better.

Teatroll Rosetta Stone says: "Demanding that people talk and behave respectfully towards one another as equals instead of like bigots is the exact same thing as murdering 6 million Jews and invading most of Europe."

    "are afraid to talk,"

Riiight, because in fact, the constant, day in, day out, opportunities we're given to confront and criticize people saying things like what just dribbled out of Carson's well-paid-to-say-this-crap "the 1% is being persecuted like the Jews" and "legitimate r-pe" and "there is no climate change, just god sending tornadoes and floods to punish gays" and "Democrat plantation" and "we need to get rid of school lunches or make the kids work for them" and spending billions on flooding the airwaves with advertising that blatantly lies in service of plutocrats and bigotry and showing up at rallies and going on bus tours paid for by the Koch brothers, waving around signs depicting the POTUS as a Nazi or Stalin or an African witch doctor and the birthers and the people claiming he's a muslim and the widespread lying to justify all the various types of voter suppression the GOP/Teatrolls have been enacting and ""urban" and "thug" and "inner city" and WE KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYBODY, etc. etc. etc....all of that...the constant, pervasive stream of societal sewage...the bigotry, the sexism, the racism, the homophobia, the religio-facist family values self-declared moral superiority and attempts to justify discrimination with "religious freedom"...all of that with which we are constantly, without surcease deluged, non-stop on a daily basis from these people....

...all of that indicates that they are so afraid to say it that they keep silent?

This paranoid delusional persecution fantasy was brought to you by the RWNJ reality-denial bubble.

Try speaking up against the ruling party in Nazi Germany, Dr. Carson. You would not live long enough for people to notice. Also, you would never have become a neurosurgeon in Nazi Germany.

So Dr Carson thinks the United States is like Nazi Germany. Then the Majority of Americans suggests that Carson leave the U.S. and take Anyone that agrees with him.

Dr. Carson became a rising star after publicly criticizing President Obama. My question to the good doctor is, what do you think your role is going to be after 2016??

He may be a neurosurgeon but his role will be nothing more than a janitor after President Obama is out of office.

Nazi Germany, dude if it were YOUR behind wouldn't be a doctor. Believe that. Not looking how you look.

It is embarrassing for such a learned man to behave such stupidly. A coward who has benefitted from affirmative action policies and now does not want other people to get the same benefits. Somebody should tell him to shut up because he has lost all respect.

This guy is an idiot. the right wing nuts accuse the dems and anyone they don't like being Nazi's socialists and so on. Take a closer look and see who is actually acting like Nazi's. it's the repubes, they slam anyone or anything they don't agree with. they think they are always right on social issues when they aren't right about anything. when was the last time they actually came up with an idea to help the country??

I believe his opinion is formed by the treatment he received from the IRS and DOJ following the speech he delivered at the national prayer breakfast 2013. Google it and read about the IRS audits and cutoff of funds to a charity for kids of convicts long run by he and his wife. Its not pretty. Apparently not many people here watch news of the right. You might be surprised what is NOT reported by most of the media.

Dr. Ben Carson is just the right medicne for Democrats. More verbal nonsense from the crazier elements in the Republican Tea Party will turn off a sizeable number of voters.

this is the kind of nonsense spouted by the republican party. Can you see this clown in the white house/ You need to start voting the repos out or run the risk that turds like this will find a place in the looney repo government. What a freak show. He should get together with Nugent and they could make a video.

right...we live in nazi germany because bigots aren't "allowed" to spit hatred at women, gays, lesbians, etc. we live in nazi germany because the nation is changing and a younger nation embraces same-sex relationships rather than hating what their parents hated. BUT...were we nazi germany when we invaded iraq under false pretense? where we nazi germany when we passed the patriot act? are we nazi germany because we live in a police state orchestrated by our intelligence community beginning at least 12 years ago and republican president and his own rubber stamp senate and house? you almost had a point, doctor. i'll get a second opinion.

So i take it you all are still going with the position that the IRS did not target Obama's political adversaries? It's time to wake up people. Innocent people who go before congress tell the truth. Guilty people exercise their 5th amendment rights. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Carson is just making an analogy about the gov't targeting people that do not agree with them. Boy is it going to be interesting in November when both houses of Congress are controlled by the republicans and they have the new relaxed rules that Harry Reid tried to use against them.

He is right about this country becoming like Nazi Germany, but for totally different reasons, and his party is responsible for it. let's remember his party and Hitler share the same end of the political spectrum, with many of the same ideas.

He didn't state any reason here why the US is like Nazi Germany. As best I can tell it is no where close in terms of policy. The only thing that might be even remotely close is the secret monitoring of everyone. I don't see the round up of any group. There are not any plans to separate groups and kill them off. Does this Ben Carson see that? If he does, then which groups?

Ben and anyone else in the US can say anything and everything he/they want. But there are consequences to what you say like being accountable and having one's feet held to the fire.

Doesn't sound like Nazi Germany to me. The public will hold you accountable through the free market. The government isn't stopping anyone from hanging themselves with their words.

It is amazing how much coverage and attention the media pays to those who make outlandish and insulting statements such as this. This is no different that the circus called Trump. If the US is like Nazi Germany, then why does he stay? I respect what Dr. Carson has accomplished as a surgeon but his behavior as a pseudo politician is downright disgusting.

Dr. Carson is way the heck out there. Is he really a neurosurgeon? I don't believe he is. A crack pot yes a doctor no. He compared the USA to Nazi Germany? He would have been put to death in Nazi Germany. I think he should go to another country to live. He doesn't deserve to live in America.
