Biden heading to Poland, Lithuania next week

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Poland and Lithuania next week to meet with leaders about Ukraine and to show U.S. support for NATO allies.

"During his meetings, the vice president will consult on steps to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and affirm our collective defense commitments under the North Atlantic Treaty and our enduring support for all of our allies and partners in Europe," the White House said in a statement on Friday.

According to the White House, Biden will be in the region from Monday through Wednesday.

The trip will follow Sunday’s referendum on whether Crimea, in southern Ukraine, should rejoin Russia.

The United States and its allies in Europe contend the referendum is unconstitutional and illegal because Russian troops have essentially taken over the strategic peninsula.

Separately, the State Department on Friday issued a travel advisory for Russia.

It cautioned Americans traveling there given "the possibility of violence or anti-U.S. actions directed against U.S. citizens or U.S. interests."

CNN's Jim Acosta and Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

the republicans make fun of Joe but he has more experience than any of the repos that want to be president and he is smarter than all of them put together. which I will admit doesn't take much doing. But he does like fighting for the average guy and he is a good Christen . So not much for the right to find fault with so they just make it up

Joe is rounding up more support from the US-faithful.

After the US successfully (but temporarily) pulled off the rump coup in Kiev, what's next?

    Nothing good, that's for sure.

An agreement with Russia is not worth the paper it is written on. No matter how you cut it, Russia is not honoring its international obligations (Budapest Memorandum). Ukraine shouldn't have surrendered its nuclear weapons.

Great... we're sending our national buffoon over there to assure the allies Obama screwed over with the cancellation of the missile defense system (meant to please the Russians). Is Obama too busy golfing and campaigning to go over there and show the Russians we are there and intend to stay and support the regions democracies? He seems to have no problem flying all over the globe to go to celebrity events. How about showing some real spine and standing up to the Russians?

Obama is just too weak kneed to do something like this. And the free world is paying a heavy price for it.

Seriously, I don't care what party, philosophy you come from. Biden is an embarrassment to Liberal/Conservitive...all.

This is a once again disaster representation of American policy from an "out of touch" politician. We're hated around the world, and our current leadership is dead to the reality of why.

Sorry, Biden is a career disaster. Original founding fathers were successful in working, and had respectful lifes. Not now. We have the likes of "out of touch" people that need expedited out of office, running the country. He needs to retire, yesterday!

Republican hero, Putin, has cracked down on all media opposing his military action in Crimea, and has stopped demonstrations with force. I am sure republican hero, Snowden, will now come out opposing Putin's civil rights violations.

Ukraine is now the third coup pulled off by Obama, Carter, and Soros (they failed in Syria). How many more peaceful countries are they going to ruin?

Obama has his pen, phone and Biden and his hateful agenda, Putin has his tanks and helicopters. Obama can cause more destruction

When the Ukraine gave up all their nuclear weapons, they were given security assurances by the USA, UK and Russia. Russia has now violated that agreement and it appears a weak and clueless Obama refuses to keep this countries commitments. It seems he is totally incapable of rallying anybody else to support him. It is clearly because he is not trusted or respected all around the globe.

  13. Obama, boxers or briefs? Neither... panties

Why isn't Obama going over there to show the flag? JFK flew into Berlin! This loser of a president can't interrupt his busy golf weekends to do his job and stand up for democracies being threaten by his Russian buddies? Truly pathetic.

I fail to see what the issue is here. Obama made it perfectly clear he was going to have and show the Russians more flexibility after the election. This is the flexibility he was talking about. Obama has been a compliant slave of Russia and Putin for 5 years now. Why are people expecting this surrender money to change his stripes now? You knew you elected a wimp so don't be surprised when he acts like a wimp.

America isn't going to risk a military confrontation with Russia over this. Americans are already whining over the few lives lost over the past 10 plus years in Iraq and Afghanistan. Getting into a conflict with Russia could be much more deadlier not to mention we can't afford another war.

Going to Poland for what, after President Obama pulled all the missile defense just because Russia said it makes them uneasy.
