Obama wants people to quit bashing his jeans

(CNN) - President Barack Obama hit back at critics calling him out for his "mom jeans.

"I've been unfairly maligned about my jeans," Obama said Friday in an interview with radio host Ryan Seacrest.

"The truth is, generally I look very sharp in jeans. There was one episode like four years ago in which I was wearing some loose jeans, mainly because I was out on the pitcher's mound and I didn't want to feel confined while I was pitching, and I think I've paid my penance for that. I got whacked pretty good. Since that time, my jeans fit very well."

The topic of the President's ill-fittingly jeans came up when Seacrest asked Obama about his recent trip to the Gap where he did some shopping for daughters Sasha and Malia.

The President's denim has had a tough go of it over the years.

The "mom jeans" joke came to be early in his first term when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Former Alaska Gov. and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin brought the joke back in the political spotlight last week when talking about the turmoil in Ukraine during an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil," Palin said. "They look at our President as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates."

Obama's interview with Seacrest comes as the White House revs up its last minute push to get Americans to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act before the March 31 open enrollment deadline.

During the interview, Obama continued his get-covered pitch, saying people should sign up because "you never know what kind of curveballs life throws at you."

CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

GOP Solution, you pretty much nailed it right on the head. I never thought that I would live long enough to see a group of people (the GOP/TBer) who are as hateful as in 2014. It just keeps getting worse this year is worse than last, which is worse than the one before, and so forth.

Potential war in Russia. A 777 Jet may be in the hands of terrorists or at the bottom of the ocean. Obamacare in shambles. Israel and Palestine battle heating up. AND OBAMA IS WORRIED ABOUT HIS FASHION STATEMENT! That's just great!

As someone who doesn't usually agree with B-rock, I agree -

From one skinny guy to another, it is tough out there in the market of jeans. Nobody wants to see us in skin tight over the top fashionable items. And to be truthful those look like your just basic relax-fit 569 Levi's - nothing flashy but decent all the same.

Yea but Obama would smoke Putin in Bball. That Russian dirt bag would be pickin a basketball out of his eye for weeks.
    Obama rockin that jump shot!

What's not manly about removing the White House's tennis courts in favor of an outdoor basketball court. Now that's American, and an American game.

Who cares about his jeans? Just let him admit that he was the one who told Hillary not to help our Ambassador and the three other men in Benghazi and she did what he told her to do so that the Chicago team will get her elected President with all dead people's votes and fake votes.

He disregards any other law he doesn't care for, why not fashion laws. Great job trying to bury the story of a failed administration.

That's right, attack the president's..............clothing. lol!!

I'm sure Obama's just pitching some internal fits over each and every one of you superior foxbots and your awesome opinions rather than running the country and getting every possible sane thing done that he can despite the evil obstructionist party.

The Mom jeans BS is a great example to set in day and age where we are trying to teach our kids not to bully. More importantly it's coming from that airhead Palin who single handly delivered the Oval Office to Obama. We have a good president, he values his family and some of u can't get over his skin color. I just love how u all think your patriots when all you do is complain about our country

At least the President pays for his own jeans, which is more than can be said for Palin. During the 2008 campaign Palin got her clothes donated. She did have some ;nice ones though.

Who cares about jeans. This is just a diversion from the real problems our country faces.
The National debt. The unaffordable care act.
The economy. Crumbling infastructure. Foreign policy weakness. And political leaders who only care about the politics of their party and not the future of this country.
