U.S. imposes sanctions on Russia

Washington (CNN) - After announcing Ukriane-related sanctions targeting some Russian officials and others, U.S. President Barack Obama told reporters Monday that the United States wants to make it clear to Russia "that further provocation (in Ukraine) will do nothing" except diminish Russia's standing in the world.

He said he believes "there's still a path to resolve" the Ukrainian situation with Russia diplomatically. That would include, he said, Russia pulling its forces back to bases, deploying international monitors, and Russia engaging in dialogue with the Ukrainian government.

Rick – Ever hear of Iran. Sanctions helped bring Iran to the table, and Russia needs to have a market for their fossil fuels. Your solution is military action?

Wake up....... Pres.Obama has no intention to bomb anyone, he removed all the missiles for defense from the Polish and East German borders, because Putin told him to do so.

So, why were you for stronger sanctions against Iran when Pres. Obama wasn't? Hmm?

My view is, it's none of our business. If 95% of the citizens, and the local government want to be part of Russia, why should we care. Suppose for a minute, Oregon was part of CA, and 95 % of its citizens wanted to secede and become a separate state. It would be allowed in A NYminute, no matter what CA wanted.

Seems to me, we have enough problems here in the US of A, that we could spend our time on.

riiight, and the missile ships USA has in the black seas are just there for pre-scheduled drills, cuz we are removing our sphere of influence cuz putin told us so....

    Or the opposite of that.

Lizzie, you should be grateful you have a POTUS that thinks before going to war. I don't know about you, but I got tired of turning on the news everyday and seeing pics of young, dead soldiers.

Educate yourself and stop letting hate guide you.

That's your view. Most people see the fact that 95% of the citizenry didn't feel that way before Russia blockaded the Crimean naval ports and moved 16,000, and counting, troops, along with tanks, missles, and other heavy military hardware into Crimea.

Go ahead Dean, explain why the Ukraine is so vital to American interests. Explain why it is more so than Georgia (Bush went fishing- literally to commemorate that transition while McCain idiotically said "We are all Georgians"). Go ahead- tell us what our nation should do- especially as the citizens of Crimea just voted overwhelmingly to rejoin Russia.

Or suppose it was an independent Texas, or Oregon, or California?

But your point is well taken. The GOP would rather flush away further $billions on another lost cause instead of say bailing out Detroit, and giving those citizens back their voting rights.

I don't understand what the point of view is that we want to impose on the people in that region.

Are the people of Crimea to be required (by us) to accept the leadership of the rebel forces that overthrew the elected government, even though they wish to align with Russia.

How do we determine that the rebel government in Ukraine is legitimate, yet the wishes of the people of Crimea are not valid? Is it only because one group sides with us? We are not setting a good precedent here. This is not how the world's last Superpower should behave.

We invade Iraq and hundreds of thousands were killed, and the killing is still going on because we destroyed their stable government. Russia occupies Crimea, without violence and with the support of the majority of the people of Crimea, and we impose sanctions on Russia.

To Wake-Up, I'm not an Obama hater, I just don't agree with him all the time. I don't think we should bomb them; we should stay out of it. We might need to talk with Russia and determine what their objectives are. We do not need to try to force our way on people who want no part of us. Whether it is Obama or Bush.
