Washington (CNN) – A longtime aide to President Barack Obama is being upped to the White House’s top operations role.
Anita Decker Breckenridge, who has worked for Obama since his days as an Illinois state senator, will assume the job of deputy chief of staff for operations from Alyssa Mastromonaco, another Obama-world veteran who is stepping down to pursue a career in the private sector.

Decker Breckenridge helped choreograph Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign announcement and later became his personal assistant.
“She has impeccable judgment, extraordinary foresight, and the battle-tested resolve to help lead this White House for the next three years,” White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said in a statement.
Mastromonaco started working with Obama in early 2005 as the then-senator’s scheduler. Originally from New York, Mastromonaco got her start in national politics with Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004.
“She may be leaving the White House but she will not be going far, as the President will continue to rely on her wise counsel,” McDonough said of Mastromonaco.
The job Decker Breckenridge is taking on is one of the most important in the White House. She’ll be responsible for overseeing all of Obama’s personnel decisions and nominations, as well as operations within the White House campus and on Air Force One.
