(CNN) - Rush Limbaugh - radio host, conservative firebrand and... children's book author of the year?
The Children’s Book Council and its Every Child a Reader program released on Thursday their author-of-the-year finalists for their annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards.

Limbaugh is one of the four finalists, and his nomination has prompted outrage on social media, given the host’s often-incendiary nature.
Limbaugh's book is titled, "Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans" – a time-traveling tale of colonial America and the latest of two books in the "Rush Revere Series" published last year by Simon & Schuster.
Limbaugh, an outspoken figure in the political world, often expresses controversial sentiments on his radio program. Recently, Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis' economic views as "pure Marxism," and, in 2012, he called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" for her support of women's access to birth control.
The Children’s Book Council issued a public letter, posted to its website and Facebook page, defending its finalist selection process following the uproar online and insisting that the author of the year finalists "are determined solely based on titles’ performances on the bestseller lists."
"Some of you have voiced concerns over the selection of finalists from bestseller lists, which you feel are potentially-manipulable indications of the success of a title. We can take this into consideration going forward, but cannot change our procedure for selecting finalists after the fact," the organization said in the letter.
The CBC letter goes on to say the kids, who will start voting next week, ultimately decide which author wins in each of the six categories, including best author. The letter goes on to assure that the organization has a procedure in place to protect against fraud and adult's voting in the contest.
"This program has never been about CBC or ECAR endorsing finalists," the letter says.
Limbaugh touted the apparent success of his book series on his radio program on Thursday.
"We just found out last night that on the New York Times Best-Seller List of March the 30th, ‘Rush Revere and the First Patriots’ will open at number one, and ‘Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims’ moves up to number four," said, according to a transcript of the audio.
Limbaugh’s book landed at the number-5 spot on the New York Times best seller’s list for the week of March 23.
CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.
Way to go Rush!!!!
You can tell which commenters never listen to Rush, they only get their info from third parties, people whose bias and hate is all consuming. Go get your info firsthand.
Wise Bruce
These are great books. They are well written facts of history and not distorted by people who want to change the way our young people view our history.
---------------------–
Sorry, Bruce. The books are, indeed, major historical rewrites. The motives behind many of the events have been given a major makeover. It is appalling that parents such as yourself are so willing to feed such propaganda to unknowing children. Case in point, the very public school books that you and so many others criticize almost always come from Texas, where they are written, edited, and printed by Texas conservatives. Don't you trust Texas conservatives to get the facts correct?
He called Fluke a prositute because she wanted free Birth Control not access to it.
Just more of the same....the mouthy liberals trying to tell us what we should like and what we shouldn't like........and what we should eat, and what we should buy, and how we should live, and how we should think....
Surely the Children's Book Council can find a more worthy gay, descendent of a slave, or put upon, yet still wise Latina author than the likes of Rush Limbaugh.
If Hollywood and the Noble Prize Committee can both do it, why can't the CBC?
Exitus acta probat
"The Brave Pilgrims" is the FIRST book in the series. This article states it is "the latest of two books." Not true! It's the FIRST of two books. The latest is "The Brave Patriots." No wonder CNN's popularity is so low....can't even get simple facts correct...smh
Frederick Potacky has let it be known the TRUE feelings of the liberal "book burning & censorship" of anything they find that is against the socialistic/communistic beliefs of the liberal/progressive! Freddie, it is already known that libs care nothing about freedom they just like to be told what they can/can't do; what they can/can't eat; that they only know illegal or immoral practices and beliefs – heaven forbid that the truth gets out!!
"it's about someone tells the truth and doesn't fill our future generation with the crap the political correct crowd want to brain wash our kids with."
"Rush Revere" is a historical character based on fact? Sounds more like the fantasy of an egomaniac willing to fill our right wing American adult minds with childish stories geared toward adult brain washing.
Oh no, a conservative taking the spotlight. How are the liberals going to indoctrinate our children if we allow them to read something from a conservative author? They might try reading the book before beating their war drums.
I always find it INTERESTING people are traditionally the first to yell about the need for "FREE SPEECH" only seem to think it applies to people they agree with political #HYPOCRITES!
Great job RUSH, great read for all the ages..
Congratulations to Rush Limbaugh. He's a gifted writer and radio personality. Ya know, I don't mind liberals hating the man, hate disguised as tolerance is what liberals do best. But, and this is directed at you CNN, at least have the guts to hate Limbaugh for what he actually says and stands for instead of the misquotes, quotes taken out of context, lies, misreporting, and you get the drift as if it will actually make a difference.
This country is in dire straights because voters, other than his Dittoheads, have chosen an unqualified politician to lead this country, as a, foolish, experiment in social justice. Bully for Rush for trying to, properly, educate young people, by allowing them to read of our history as it happened, not as how some American hater would have them believe. And this, after all, is what our, constantly, whining teachers should do and, I believe, would do, if their Progressive/Union handlers allowed them to.
I'm sure Rush wrote every word of his books; no high-paid ghost writer with a non-disclosure agreement similar to his ex-wives, just Rush's fat little fingers on the computer keys. Right. And the sun will rise in the West tomorrow.
The reason the lefties hate his book is because he dares to disagree with their view of history, nothing more than that.
You must look at the finish product. We've had Presidents who owned slaves, but I don't believe they were impeached. You must look at the body of work and the good the work might be doing in educating our young people on a long lost art of teaching history in American to our children. Our schools sure don't do it anymore. It's not PC.
Congratulations Rush!!
Nothing brings out the (faux) outrage in the left quite like Mr. Limbaugh
I knew we we heading down the wrong road when years ago I read, in my childs history book, a couple paragraphs devoted to the Wright Brothers efforts in developing the airplane, followed later by a page and a half on the wondrous career of Marilyn Monroe.
It's sure funny how the people running this thing have already said going forward (next time in other words) they will make sure nothing like giving quality books an equal chance will be allowed unless it's a far left publication..
Ah, children and teens voting for their best books – democracy in action; something liberals, progressives and social facists despise .
Good for Rush.
Ted Cruz wrote a coloring book and Rush Limbaugh has a talking horse, Liberty. Sarah Palin wrote a book, Glenn Beck, Bill OReilly, and now these two add to the demand for fact checkers.
Way to go Rush. Perhaps the kids will be exposed to a little truth regarding American history rather that the hateful, guilt ridden liberal version that is pounded into their heads by the left wing education establishment.
Again good work and thank you Rush, as a listener since 1990 I can say you have done a world of good for your nation and it's citizens.
Rich in New Mexico.
