(CNN) - Rush Limbaugh - radio host, conservative firebrand and... children's book author of the year?
The Children’s Book Council and its Every Child a Reader program released on Thursday their author-of-the-year finalists for their annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards.

Limbaugh is one of the four finalists, and his nomination has prompted outrage on social media, given the host’s often-incendiary nature.
Limbaugh's book is titled, "Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans" – a time-traveling tale of colonial America and the latest of two books in the "Rush Revere Series" published last year by Simon & Schuster.
Limbaugh, an outspoken figure in the political world, often expresses controversial sentiments on his radio program. Recently, Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis' economic views as "pure Marxism," and, in 2012, he called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" for her support of women's access to birth control.
The Children’s Book Council issued a public letter, posted to its website and Facebook page, defending its finalist selection process following the uproar online and insisting that the author of the year finalists "are determined solely based on titles’ performances on the bestseller lists."
"Some of you have voiced concerns over the selection of finalists from bestseller lists, which you feel are potentially-manipulable indications of the success of a title. We can take this into consideration going forward, but cannot change our procedure for selecting finalists after the fact," the organization said in the letter.
The CBC letter goes on to say the kids, who will start voting next week, ultimately decide which author wins in each of the six categories, including best author. The letter goes on to assure that the organization has a procedure in place to protect against fraud and adult's voting in the contest.
"This program has never been about CBC or ECAR endorsing finalists," the letter says.
Limbaugh touted the apparent success of his book series on his radio program on Thursday.
"We just found out last night that on the New York Times Best-Seller List of March the 30th, ‘Rush Revere and the First Patriots’ will open at number one, and ‘Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims’ moves up to number four," said, according to a transcript of the audio.
Limbaugh’s book landed at the number-5 spot on the New York Times best seller’s list for the week of March 23.
CNN's Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.
I will not buy anything that Rush Limbaugh puts his name to, but that's my prerogative as a consumer.
Additionally it is hard for me to fathom Rush writing anything that I'd want children to read but he has, and lo and behold it has sold well.
He met the current criteria to be a finalist supposedly fair and square so let's just shut up about it.
They are probably afraid that the kids will learn real history.
Cris posted: Gee, so many comments and almost no one has even read this book. I find that simply astounding.
I have not read the book and so i do not intend to post a comment about it. I do listen to Rush though and based off the hate and venom, that comes from the ling wing nut cases, not only, have they posted hateful things, about his books, having never read them, they have posted hateful things, about him and his radio show, having never taken the time to listen to anything more than excerpts, that have been taken out of context, if they have even done that. Some (Probably most) are just the Mind numbed, mental infant army, of propaganda repeaters, that perpetuate all the myths, of the Left, going with the herd, afraid or to shallow, to actually look, behind the curtain and see the truth of the Right.
Keep dancing, liberal monkeys. You entertain me.
Your article states the following: "Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis' economic views as 'pure Marxism....'"
That is simply not true. He blasted the liberal news media for how it erroneous presented Pope Francis's views on economics, and he blasted the media for being misleading in a way that gave people the false impression that the Pope supported socialism. The Pope does not support socialism. The media characterized the Pope's views as Marxist – and Rush blasted that characterization.
If you bothered to listen to his program, you would know better than make such baseless accusations. But, that mischaracterization of Mr. Limbaugh's statements is just another talking point that avoids any serious grown-up discussion of the merits of whatever disagreement you may have with his politics. It is a cynical attempt to elicit an emotional reaction that is the equivalent to "WHAT!?!?!? How dare he question the Pope!" That might work with the typical college freshman who has never tried to figure out who FICA is and why they get half his paycheck. But, such emotional nonsense does not work on thinking individuals – even those who might be inclined to agree with your political views.
Apparently, facts no longer matter to CNN. You have unfortunately become the press office for certain political causes and have no objectivity whatsoever. You utterly fail to check your facts.
Of course, in keeping with how you interpret things, I am sure that this comment will be read as "Man defends Rush's attack on Pope's economic policy." That, of course, is not true.
Here is a more truthful headline. "Man bemoans the lost of journalistic integrity as CNN once again shows extreme political bias in unfair and untrue mischaracterization of Rush criticisms of the Media's deliberately false characterizations that the Pope's economic policies are somehow 'Marxist'.
The comments by the liberal posters show just how sick, twisted, and depraved the left is.
Ad hominem attacks with no effort (or desire) to discuss the accuracy/inaccuracy of the content of his books.
Liberals are demented.
I love how the left loves to hate Rush, that just makes me like him that much more. His book is great, my kids love listening to me read it to them. It angers the left when anyone with an opposing point of view gets noticed.
"Limbaugh, an outspoken figure in the political world, often expresses controversial sentiments on his radio program."
Yes he does....it's called the truth. And progressives can't handle the truth.
The problem is libs refuse to read
They only regurgitate that which they are told by their puppet masters
READ libs-–you may actually learn something
What I really enjoy is the fact that liberal progressives think they've already won the war for America's heart and soul...far, far from it. Looking forward to this coming November and the pure devastation they will experience!
Both Limbaugh books are fantastic. My grandkids love them.
It's hilarious to read lefties *desperately* trying to convince everyone that THEY are the kind & thoughtful & tolerant ones out of one side of their mouth..... while spewing bile-dripping hatred and literal "death-wishes" to a childrens' book author, from the other. Now, let that hatred FLOW, liberals..... reveal your TRUE selves openly, for everyone to see. Kids that like these well-written books will read YOUR intolerant hatred, and YOU will make them lifelong conservatives, not Rush. Lol.
It's yet another example of the totalitarianism and intolerance that have become standard features of the American statist left. These are people who have no problem with an admitted domestic terrorist teaching kids in Chicago; that is, as long as he toes the far-left, statist line. Yet, they will scream their heads off when someone who DARES to disagree with them writes an educational book for children, (that also does not advance any agenda, by the way), and is recognized for it.
The ignorant hatred of the self-proclaimed "progressives", along with their sheer arrogance, will be their political undoing. Hopefully, the mid-term elections this year will be the beginning of finally relegating this unAmerican movement to the political and social insignificance it deserves.
Mentally sick leftists imbeciles – and NONE OF THEM HAD READ THE BOOK – would spit at Rush even if he had donated 100 million dollars to a charity..... -> "Oh, why so little? " and other drivel would follow.
As he said:
liberalism IS A MENTAL DISEASE
That's only one half of the truth, which totally distorts the facts. The facts are that Georgetown had been covering prescription birth control for years, for decades. Suddenly, with the passage of the ACA, Georgetown decided that they would no longer cover prescription birth control, arguing that they ACA shouldn't force them to cover it, despite the fact that they had done so for years. Brith control prescriptions can be written for a variety of reasons, none of which have anything to do with intercourse.

_____
And that is also a half truth. Georgetown had, and stated they would continue to, cover birth control prescriptions for medical purposes. Good grief.
Wow...bias much? It was not Sandra Fluke's support of "access to birth control" that rankled Conservatives and Rush – it was the "FREE" part of the argument she was making – as in "FREE" when somebody ELSE pays for it.
This is a GREAT book! My 8 year old LOVES it and it is educational. Nothing political or 'Rush' about it. Can't wait for the next book in the series. RUSH RUSH RUSH into history!!!!
Rush is an amazing person. The writer doesn't report the news, just lies, but what is new. Get your facts straight Dana Davidsen. I listen to him everyday, and you have him all wrong.
Why shouldn't Rush be number one in all areas, his intellect far surpasses that of even the most brilliant liberals like the Messiah.
Liberalism is a mental disorder there is no other explanation.
Our kids are exposed to liberal perspectives every day with our standard public school curriculum. Where's the outrage over that? Should we ban the school books to? Hell, let's burn them in true totalitarian/socialist spirit.
Liberals are so concerned that they may loose the tool to indoctrinate.....education.
Yet I'm betting George Bernard Shaw, who openly endorsed mass extermination, gets a pass from many in this crowd...
Ms Davidsen, the author of this column, has presented a few errors. One obvious one is the continued lefty fairy-tale about conservatives opposing Sandra Flukes access to birth control. That is complete BS. Conservatives are opposed to having to PAY for her free birth control. Get it right, Ms Davidsen.
Dominican MaMa 4 OMaMa as you said you did not read it as usual for a liberal talking about something you know nothing about. You may want to read it and become a American MaMa 4 the USA. That is not going to happen ignorance is bliss.
