(CNN) – A woman hurled a shoe at Hillary Clinton on Thursday during a speech in Las Vegas, according to the Secret Service.
She ducked and it missed her, joking afterward about the incident that occurred during an appearance before a recycling trade group.

"My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial," she quipped.
"Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did," she added.
The Secret Service took the woman into custody. They said she was not a ticketed guest and slipped past hotel security.
She was not named and only identified as a protester. But it was not clear what she was protesting.
The incident happened shortly after Clinton took the stage to address the meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.
Mark Carpenter, spokesman for The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, said the woman was not affiliated with his group and was not credentialed for the event.
He said she "must have slipped under the rope at the last second."
"I saw papers fly when the protester stood up. I saw papers flying in the air," he said.
Carpenter said there were about 1,000 people in attendance.
Clinton's appearance is the latest in a series of high-profile speaking engagements for the former secretary of state since leaving the Obama administration. She is considered the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential race.
CNN's Dan Merica contributed to this report.
Gonna have to do better at screening those GOPers OUT of the audience. They're so worried about Hillary running & WINNING in 2016, that they're now in all out attack mode. LOL.
Just like the Bush shoe incident
FIRST! damn.. first it was bush.. now her...
The photo caught her diabolical scientist pose.
There need not, be a reason to protest Hillary. She invites a protest, by the very fact she still wants to run.
How childish! Just how are we to interpret that action. There are far better ways to protest and she might begin by using her words.
Impossible. The media tells us that EVERYONE LOVES Hillary
Who throws a shoe!? Honestly!?
That lady will learn to tread lightly around Ms Clinton
Hillary can be proud of her accomplishments in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Ukraine and Venezuela. The US government is working hard to bring freedom and democracy to all!
Kick her out of the country.
The typical level of maturity we see in politics today. Not a fan of Hillary by any stretch of the imagination, but actions like this are just childish.
A bat?...what a senile old broad....Bush dodged two shoes, much funnier!
So that protester acted alone and was the sole attacker?
The Secret Service agents on duty at this event had better wake up. Next time it might be something more lethal than a shoe.
It's too bad it didn't explode and kill every Democrat and Republican in office currently. That would just be terrible if we had to start from scratch and elect decent people that work together to solve real problems in this country.
Bush dodged two shoes. Just saying.
That's the way to handle it: no name, no clue about why.
The young woman who did this today has totally discredited WHATEVER view she was protesting to support by taking a violent action to espouse her views. If she simply wanted to argue a viewpoint she could just as easily have written a paper and handed it out after the event or published it on the internet. As things stand, she has done nothing more than draw attention to her juvenile, violent and unlawful behavioral issues.
Somebody else who definitely doesn't want Clinton in the Oval Office.
Ahahahahahahaha. That's too funny.
"about a 1,000 people."?
Mandalay Bay was extremely careless to allow someone to slip by. Republicans are currently vetting cities for their convention and Las Vegas is in the running. This could really turn them off on the city if security is seen as a problem.
What was she protesting? I think it's pretty obvious that she was from the Tea Party, and she's protesting Hillary Clinton.
Its a curious thing that those that are most xenophobic seem to idolize foreign actions and wish to imitate them.
