Woman throws shoe at Hillary Clinton

(CNN) – A woman hurled a shoe at Hillary Clinton on Thursday during a speech in Las Vegas, according to the Secret Service.

She ducked and it missed her, joking afterward about the incident that occurred during an appearance before a recycling trade group.

"My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial," she quipped.

"Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did," she added.

The Secret Service took the woman into custody. They said she was not a ticketed guest and slipped past hotel security.

She was not named and only identified as a protester. But it was not clear what she was protesting.

The incident happened shortly after Clinton took the stage to address the meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Mark Carpenter, spokesman for The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, said the woman was not affiliated with his group and was not credentialed for the event.

He said she "must have slipped under the rope at the last second."

"I saw papers fly when the protester stood up. I saw papers flying in the air," he said.

Carpenter said there were about 1,000 people in attendance.

Clinton's appearance is the latest in a series of high-profile speaking engagements for the former secretary of state since leaving the Obama administration. She is considered the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential race.

CNN's Dan Merica contributed to this report.

This girl is my newest hero. We must protest fascists however and whenever it's possible if we're to beat them back under a rock where they belong. We need a big "Blue Dress Brigade" to take their voices back from the fascists (like Hillary) who claim to speak for women.

The left has loved to attack Reagan and the Bushes for accepting outrageous speaking fees, but when Hillary and her "hubby," Ol' Happy Pants, rake in the cash, there's nothing but silence. Hypocrisy much?

I want to see the shoe.Reports say it was black and orange.Black and Orange. The woman who threw the shoe was wearing a black and blue dress. The colors are all wrong. If the fashion don’t fit you must acquit. lol And they say she was hopping away? The picture shows her wearing flip flops. Still so fashionably faux pas. If it was a stiletto shoe…then this is a serious attempt on Hillary’/s life! Sad thing is she might become famous as a media talk show guest.

@Hog – Why is the Secret Service with Hillary Clinton?

Former President Bill Clinton DOES NOT have Secret Service protection; and as far as I know Hillary has not announced she's running for President in 2016, nor hve Democrats picked her.

    ANSWER:
In 1965, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186) to protect a former president and his/her spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection.

Secret Service needs to step up more and this should never happen, ever again.

    Go Hillary 2016!

    Ben

Does no one find it odd that when the same thing happened to President bush, in a dangerous warzone, where it could have been a grenade, he was made on CNN to look like an oaf, but here, in this case, it is used to make Hilary look clever...

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Neither CNN nor any other news organization or individual made the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue "look like an oaf" – he did that all by himself.

There aren't enough shoes in the entire U.S. to express my disgust for these incompetent people and the ruin they're bringing to this once great country.

That's probably one of the most vulgar comments I've seen and you think it's not name-calling and perfectly OK?

Security should make everyone take off their shoes and give them slippers before entering auditoriums for such high-brow events. And they should check handbags too, to make sure the contents are not "throwable". I mean, who would want to throw their expensive makeup kit away?

This reads to me like this woman threw a shoe just so this article would be written then people could post about compairing the situation to Bush. Problem is the woman made no point while throwing the shoe, whereas when the protester threw a shoe at Bush he at least made a statement about why he was doing it. As far as this article making Hillary look clever, well, her comments WERE clever. If you don't like that, too bad. Go back to trying to spin this into some silly nonsense to support Republicans.

I think the blonde who threw the shoe is the fascist, not Hillary who is democrat, this is Nevada after all! Republican state.

If she decides to run for the WH then she better be prepared for worse; and she'll certainly deserve it. Maybe we'll finally ge the answers to all her corrupt deeds. I would like for her to explain exactly what she sold to go from bankrupt when she and Bill skulked away from the WH to a fortune of over $100M in less than 8 years. Seems the Bush era was very good to these 2 diseased crooks.

Maybe the women throwing the shoe was back stage with Bill Clinton. Bill probably dripped on her shoe so she was trying to get rid of the evidence.

Can't the conservatives come up with anything original, they've resorted to stealing ideas from Muslims now.
