(CNN) – A woman hurled a shoe at Hillary Clinton on Thursday during a speech in Las Vegas, according to the Secret Service.
She ducked and it missed her, joking afterward about the incident that occurred during an appearance before a recycling trade group.

"My goodness, I didn't know solid waste management was so controversial," she quipped.
"Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did," she added.
The Secret Service took the woman into custody. They said she was not a ticketed guest and slipped past hotel security.
She was not named and only identified as a protester. But it was not clear what she was protesting.
The incident happened shortly after Clinton took the stage to address the meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.
Mark Carpenter, spokesman for The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, said the woman was not affiliated with his group and was not credentialed for the event.
He said she "must have slipped under the rope at the last second."
"I saw papers fly when the protester stood up. I saw papers flying in the air," he said.
Carpenter said there were about 1,000 people in attendance.
Clinton's appearance is the latest in a series of high-profile speaking engagements for the former secretary of state since leaving the Obama administration. She is considered the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential race.
CNN's Dan Merica contributed to this report.
Not that I am against it, but why does she have Secret Service protection? Presidents only get it for 10 years after leaving office now....can someone fill me in please?
Somebody on the Secret Service detail needs to be fired. Hillary may very well be the next President of the United States. Regardless of your political affiliation, this is very disturbing. If this person was more serious about causing bodily harm, this could have ended very badly. It's game time folks. It's time for the A-Team security detail. The scrubs should be transferred to counterfeit duty.
It missed her and then she ducked..(watch video)...CNN loves their girl............
Wow! Such disrespect! People like this shoe-thrower are the ones who should be institutionalized not people with disabilities.
Hope it was worth it silly shoe-thrower... You're going to be doing some serious time now!
Yep. That about sums it up. We've had it with you Socialists.
Correction: Stupid woman throws shoe at woman a billion times more intelligent than herself.
At least one woman has figured out that nobody has done more harm to women than liberal policy, which has cost millions of women their full-time jobs, and has cost millions of women their doctors and the health insurance plans they were content with.
One down, about 75 million to go.
Hilary can handle herself in any situation!
wonder if the thrower will have a monument built in her honor as well
She must be protesting the association's lack of interest in shoe recycling.
That's no way to treat your next president.
That's just wrong. I despise the Clintons, but you have to respect the offices held.
She didnt dodge it, she reacted well after it passed her. Too bad that girl didnt have better aim, Hilary with a broken nose would have been awesome.
What the hell! Secret Service drunk again or what?
She and G.W. Bush can agree they both have cat like reflexes for dodging shoes!
Was she arrested for trespassing and attempted assault?
Little slow on the reaction there Hil...not as easy as dodging that 'sniper' fire I guess!
Street Cred. Thrown shoe = don't screw with me.
Thank God Hillary is ok. We need to make it illegal to protest so society won't have to deal with these foolish people.
Shoes are dangerous projectiles and should be banned.
Benghazi Hillary is going to waste a lot of money running for prez. she doesn't have a whisper of a chance.
What, no posts linking the incident to Benghazi? I am so unimpressed. Let's give it a little more time for the Koo Koo Party to get something posted.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable. It was unacceptable when someone threw a shoe at President Bush and it is unacceptable now. Protest is great and is a protected right, assault is not.
Hillary if fighting for women's rights, including those of the female protestor.
