Washington (CNN) - Add Rep. Tom Petri to the growing list of House members who are retiring at the end of the year rather than running for re-election.
The Wisconsin Republican's office put out a statement Friday that the 17-term congressman will make a statement on Monday at a town hall in Neenah, Wisconsin, "announcing that he will not be a candidate for reelection to Congress."

Petri becomes the 24th House member (14 Republicans and 10 Democrats) to announce their retirement at the end of 2014. Another 18 representatives (11 Republicans and seven Democrats) are running for the Senate or other offices rather than campaigning for another term in the House.
Petri represents Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District, which is located in the east-central part of the state and includes Oshkosh and Sheboygan. He won 62% of the vote in his 2012 re-election. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney carried the district by seven percentage points in the presidential election. Overall, the district is considered pretty safe for the GOP.
Petri, first elected to Congress in a 1979 special election, is currently chairman of the Transportation Committee's Highways and Transit subcommittee.
