Woman faces federal charges for allegedly throwing shoe at Hillary Clinton

(CNN) – An Arizona woman now faces federal charges for allegedly throwing a shoe at Hillary Clinton.

Alison Ernst, 36, was arrested on Monday in Phoenix, the Secret Service said.

Ernst allegedly tossed a shoe at the former secretary of state and possible 2016 presidential candidate, who was on stage for a speech at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Clinton ducked as the shoe flew by. Ernst was quickly detained. She did not have a ticket to the event and eluded hotel security, officials said.

A Las Vegas police report said Ernst took the shoe from her purse and after being detained, she “appeared to be in an agitated state but aware of what she had just done."

Local authorities are weighing disorderly conduct charges, and federal authorities in Phoenix filed a complaint alleging she violated access restrictions in place around Clinton’s event.

CNN's Evan Perez, Dan Merica and Dana Davidsen contributed to this report.

Well, we are learning these things from Iraqi guys? Well, we are this way developing. We are also developing for greed too. We used to be more generous, every where greed, greed, greed, quick money. We need to leave this and work for ethics, morality. I mean congress too.

I hope that woman gets time behind bars. Maybe she will think twice about doing anything like that a second time.

Was it a white shoe? Women are not supposed to throw white shoes before Memorial Day. If it was a dark shoe...that's OK.

Federal charges for what? Isn't she a private citizen now? Or is this one of those secret service for life things from being first lady 14 years ago.

Federal charges? Mrs. Clinton holds no federal office of any kind. How is throwing a shoe, and missing, at a private citizen a federal charge?

Got to say the shoe was thrown with a big degree of accuracy.

The government takes a dim view of people voicing their opinion of a candidate, especially if they are a DEMOCRAT!

Yes – but that ended w/Clinton. Future Presidents (and their spouses) only get SS protection for 10 years after leaving office

In response to not liking the gov in your life a few things roads bridges tunnels creeks dams water ways railroads should just crumble, and back to dirt roads. You see guy the gop establishment sponsored by the rich elite wants voters like you to go back to the stone age while they are smiling all the way forward to the bank. Think for yourself try and do some research on your own you can listen but check it out first to make sure it's correct. It is nice to see our tax dollars are still being consumed/wasted protecting what should be a private citizen at this point. She is out all over the country making megabucks giving speeches and we are footing the bill for her security and God knows what else. Time to END THE CLINTON WELFARE PROGRAM!

Meanwhile our veterans benefits are being cut. Absolutely insane.

--Donna, can you show me a single sane candidate in Republican Party? That work for middle-class Americans, that has ethics, morality. They all want to ban YOUR SS, MEDICARE, NOW HEALTHCARE. Don't they know insurances denied pre-existing cond. pts? Don't they know pharmacy never produced Generic, don't they know multiple-tests in different Hospitals? Kindly explain. Yes, with new law, you are NOT denied. God bless!

She didn't 'dodge' a shoe – she attempted a standing 'fetal position' with monologue after the fact.

She didn't even see the shoe until it passed her by, and her first words were "was that a bat?" If you've ever taken a stroll at dusk you've probably had to dodge a bat or two as well – unless you live someplace where bats don't exist.

All of this government expense for protection should be means tested, just like other government benefits. If the Clintons are making millions from their speeches and books (all because of government service), then they should be footing the bill for their own security. They can afford it. It is all a business expense as well. This government needs to start using its head and end these massive benefit plans for themselves.

Sounds like free speech to me...

If physically assaulting someone because you don't agree with their ideology is your idea of "free speech" you need serious help.

Why federal? If it were any other common citizen it would be a misdemeanor, wouldn't it? This just tells you that the politicos and demagogues are just members of the oligarchy and we are supposed to be their humble subjects. At least this woman was brave enough to stand up and express her frustration with the dysfunction of the system. More should follow her example.

Whats with the shoe throwing? first bush now clinton? watch out for the nike's.

Perhaps the woman who threw the shoe at HC should face as harsh a punishment as the guy who threw the shoe at Bill Clinton's brother from another mother. The Iraqi authorities (it happened in Iraq) sent to jail for several years!

  21. You Got It

Felony Charges for throwing a SHOE??? That didn't even hit or injure her.......next they'll make a law that says you can't insult the President or Government Agencies.

I think she needs a strong misdemeanor charge for throwing and missing, but this certainly isn't worth her spending years in jail over or losing the right to vote/bear arms.
Now, if the shoe had hit Hillary, felony charges it is........

Its funny to hear some on here wanting prison time for this woman. She tossed a shoe at Clinton, not a steel toed boot with spikes. Community service should be enough.

Right. "...violated access restrictions in place around Clinton's event." What was it...another secret government pow-wow?

No, it was a PRIVATE, INVITATION ONLY EVENT and the woman didn't have a ticket. How would you feel if YOU were speaking at a private function and some crazed individual crashed the venue and started throwing things and shouting at you from a darkend audience?
