Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

Reid is 100% correct. Bundy is a criminal and his supporters are terrorist.

If this was 1775, Harry Reid would be a British sympathizer and a red coat.

The fact a militia has risen up to deny the government the power to enforce taxes on him that are not necessary is a direct right given to us by the Constitution. At some point, the Federal government should learn that they can't just change rules because they want to charge taxes. At what point will the Feds go after all of the squirrels and other wildlife who get nutrition from that same land for not paying taxes?

This slippery slope start long ago and the people have allowed it to happen for various reasons. The reason people are against this situation is because the guy has a lot of money. People are so intent on hating those who have more than them that they don't care about the fact freedoms are being taken away. This situation doesn't involve the nation's security or anyone's inalienable rights. This is a simple case of the government changing the boundaries of a plot of land in order to charge taxes. This would be considered laughable had it been done during the days when our independence was new, but now is acceptable because the precedent was set a long time ago.

The mans family owned this land since before Nevada was a state and he is guilty of not paying a government agency for land that was never there's they come on his property and take his cows people try to help this man keep his property and protect what his family has and this idiot says they are terrorists i think Ried is dyslexic and has no right to be name calling when the terrorists are the Bureau of Land Management are,They called the Native Americans Savages and took there land, guess the word terrorist wasn't used then. Its real sad that America is still stealing land from hard working people just because they are weaker and they can hang a evil name on them and have there way how can he owe Grazing fee's on land that was his before it was a state Sad,Sad Sad.....

Of course they are. Their "movement" was funded and is controlled by very rich extremists who want to end democracy in our country. These people, like most terrorists all over the world, are fools who are following leaders who are using them for their own purposes. Look at the tea party and the GOP in Congress – they all work for the same owners.

I hold no sympathy for this rancher and the hoodlums whom fight for his cause.

    From the Biological Diversity website:
Cattle destroy native vegetation, damage soils and stream banks, and contaminate waterways with fecal waste. After decades of livestock grazing, once-lush streams and riparian forests have been reduced to flat, dry wastelands; once-rich topsoil has been turned to dust, causing soil erosion, stream sedimentation and wholesale elimination of some aquatic habitats; overgrazing of fire-carrying grasses has starved some western forests of fire, making them overly dense and prone to unnaturally severe fires.

I hike quite a bit and also live amongst many cattle ranchers. I have seen first hand what these cattle do to our lands. I state our lands because it is our tax dollars and park entry fees that pay for the upkeep. This rancher has not only abused our monies but, has also decided that his cattle deserve the land over any other species requiring its resources. The government does indeed allow access to grazing but, is meant to be within a managed arrangement. Not unlimited access. This man should be imprisoned.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

-Isn't this the same thing that illegal aliens are doing? Apparently the law only applies to people that fit his own agenda.

Guess I am a Domestic Terrorist. I was not there. I do not know the whole story.
I am guessing Reid is a Domestic Terrorist too. But Reid and I were at a disagreement when he was governor. He said I could not use Common Law. The Attorney General had to overrule him.
Seems the Feds may have violated the Ranchers Rights under the Law too.

    Wow. Just wow.

Combine that with Rep Pelosi saying illegal immigrants are the "true patriots" and Pres Obama saying to "punish our enemies" (those who disagree with him politically).

It shows how much the Dem Party detests the Constitution, the US, and their fellow Americans. It's all about party to them.
