Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

Anyone who disagrees with him is either a terrorist or racist or a bigot. Let face it, our World has become less civilized due to politics.

So sending 200 armed men, setting up an illegal 1st amendment zone 3 miles from the property, over grazing fees isn't terrorism? You don't think Mr. Reid the people in that town didn't feel like they were under siege.

So.. in Reid's mind anyone who doesn't agree with should be called terrorist? This is another reason to show what is wrong with who we have voted into government. When is this guy up for re-election? Please send him and John Mccain packing!

In the old days the government stopped terrorists from pointing assault rifles at people. Nowadays government points assault rifles at women and children and the so-called 'terrorists' are the people who kindly ask them to stop.

When a D.C. housewife, whose child was in the car, accidentally turned into the wrong White House driveway and made a u turn the government chased a frightened woman down and assassinated her. Reid and the rest of Congress gave her assassination a literal standing ovation.

Anyone who disapproves of such needless killing is labeled a terrorist. Look in the mirror Mr. Reid.

Throwing a loose word and labeling the protester terrorist, is Harry Reid saying that, so he can detain the protesters without due process of the law? Maybe gather them up, one by one at the protesters homes, detained them and interrogate them without a lawyer present. After all they are terrorist, Right?

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.” Neither do millions of people who enter this country illegally and don't follow the existing immigration laws. Some of those people even bring drugs and violence with them that is poisoning our country. We can't very well just let them all starve to death here, so we give them whatever they need to survive–which is more than we do for our own homeless population. Yet you are all about giving those who enter the country illegally a free pass. It's difficult, but plenty of people manage to immigrate to this country legally, following the rules, becoming citizens, and it's a slap in the face to those people to allow others to just jump a fence and receive the same benefits.

Oh but thank goodness, Harry Reid, that you are on top of this guy who is just trying to graze his cattle and doesn't want the government to bully him out of his land. This is setting an awfully dangerous precedent. The government can declare any land it wants "government land" and take it whenever they like, and if you try to defend your property, you are a terrorist. But of course, the government is here to do what is best for us, for our own good, because we don't know what we need or how to live our own lives.

    AMEN Reid, AMEN!!!

These aren't 'militia's', they're no different then the armed gangs found in cities and towns all over. Untrained armed extremists with unlawful agenda's. Many, and members within, are doing exactly the same as any gang. Drug use and trafficking, gun trafficking, unlawful acts to enrich or maintain their extremist ways, reigning terror on any and all in the communities they exist by their actions and speak, even with their own gang colors and patches along with tattoo's today, terror cells called domestic, all hiding behind the flag in attempts to justify and adding their own flags they worship.

Dregs in and on a Civil Society!!

And the continued use of what they want to be called, Militia's, in the press and by everyone else, same as their use of Christianity always has, gives them the credibility they seek. In a society that once finally had almost completely recognized what they really were and pushed them into the darkness, making it extremely harder to recruit to their ranks. The extremely intolerant using the patriotism and christian meme's as the cover in attacking the tolerant and law abiding in a civil society!

Politicians like Reid should also call themselves domestic terrorists as they lie to voters, steal from tax payers and have the nerve to call US citizens terrorists who have the right to keep him and the government in check. Shame on you Mr. Reid, why don't you and the rest of our elected officials do something more useful like taking care of our veterans like you should.

Reid says "He doesn't pay his taxes,or his fees, and he doesn't follow the law" WOW, he should run for Senator of Nevada, he would fit right in. He calls them "Domestic Terrorists", but Hassan the convicted killer of all those servicemen and women at Ft Hood was "work place violence".

Reid seems awful worried about this one rancher not paying his taxes. Why doesn't he go after the 50% of the total population who do not pay taxes? Oh yea...they are the ones who elected him.

Of course Reid having a financial stake in the land via his son and a Chinese solar development company has nothing to do with his stance...

to be a terrorist means one is willing to commit violence to get one's way. so it does seem that those who brought out their guns to threaten gov't officials are terrorists. of course, one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. The sad thing about this is that these people are defending thieves and cowards. The Bundys are stealing from all American people, making a profit on stealing resources that the gov't holds in trust for all of us. There is no way they could have such a herd unless they were stealing the resources from the gov't land, land that they could legally browse on if they would pay for what it is worth. They have chosen to steal from me and from everyone, and that is no one's right.

Actually Harry, you got it all wrong, they represent the people and you represent an over-reaching federal government. Its time that term limits are implemented and put and end to career politicians along with the best government for sale that has since replaced the government "For the people, by the people"!

It is disingenuous, and yellow journalism by CNN to characterize the BLM motive for changing grazing regulations on Bundy as protection for the desert tortoise.
