Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

I am actually surprised that it took this long for someone to utter the terrorist word in response to this. It's the newest buzzword in the government's propaganda arsenal. Good tactic Mr. Reid. Now we will all rally around you to stomp out these despicable people and their ways.

Oh oh, he we go. Reid done gone let the cat out of the bag now. Anyone defending themselves against the police state are now 'domestic terrorists'. Resisting arrest is now a classification of terrorism. Refusing to pay fines makes you a terrorist according to Reid. Maybe Obama will get his very own Waco style massacre soon.

If anyone is a terrorist it is Harry Reid. Reid is a bully and a criminal and should be arrested on a charge or treason.

Calling the supporters terrorists is a bit strong. But, I believe they are indeed law breakers. Bundy and his group of supports should be rounded up and tossed in jail!

Great Harry, farmers that want their animals to grave on public lands and their supporters are the same as people who blow up and kill people.

Talk about hate speech. To think that this is part of the Democartic Leadership is frightening.

I think Harry Reid must have been looking in the mirror when he thought of that idea.

Comments like this really do not help a tense situation get any better. Is this land like District 12 in the Hunger Games? I'm starting to wonder if this man really wants to get re-elected?

Reid is probably trying to lease the land to the fracking industry. He doesn't like people who stands up for their rights.

Who are they terrorising Harry? Making unfounded and irresponsible comments like that are going to make you highly popular in the next election....but not in a good way.

Why senators continue to support this verbal bombthrower of a Speaker is beyond reason. Sen. Harry Reid is a national embarrassment.

Reid is the terrorist. He has steered hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to companies his corrupt sons are involved with. They in turn have benefited to the tune of millions illegally. and he has the unmitigated gall to call these men terrorists.

He and his sons are wanting this same property for his Chinese buddies to build a solar project. Why is this type of corruption not being prosecuted.

The terrorist is you Mr. Reid. You guys showed up with armed weapons at a guys house that was guilty of not selling his land to you. Your a thief and a liar. This is what money does to people. Prime example is you Mr. Reid. You start bullying people because the money you have but if you didn't have it you would probably be one of the Bundy's.

It always amazes me that people like these most extreme right wingers in Nevada claim to love our country, brandishing American flags at every chance but then in the very next glance they complain and refuse to follow the rules set forth by the country they claim to love.
You don't see the big picture here. Look deeper and you will see the true criminals and it's not the rancher. Goverment takeover of grazing land that has been done for many years. BLM is doing this around the country, not to save a tortois.
