Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

    Political hackery!
Mr. Reid, please show some leadership. What is right and just will play out in time or in the courts and politics can only aggravate the situation. Lien the ranch, if you must and we the people will get our share with out bloodshed or another Waco or Ruby Ridge.

Harry Reid, AKA Mr. Peepers is being directed by the White House to take the lead on this confrontation. Obama knows that the specter of guns and dogs from The Federal forces last week is not what he wants to lead back to the White House. He has directed Reid to pick up the gauntlet and take the lead. Reid with is solid double digit IQ is just right for the job.

Me thinks that Mr. Reed has OD'd on his Kool-Aid. Time to pump his stomach and get rid of that poison. Oh BTW Reed is wrong, the rancher has paid his taxes. The dispute is whether he has a right to graze his cattle on federal land without paying.

Sounds like he would fit in DC with Harry Reid just fine. Birds of a feather...

So Americans who stand up for their rights are now called t3rrorists. I seen this coming! How many of you didn't? So being labeled as the T word allows the government to suspend many of our rights. Remember though, the threat of being labeled a T for exercising our First Amendment rights certainly violates the First Amendment. The government is using laws to crush dissent, and it’s gotten so bad that even U.S. Supreme Court justices are saying that we are descending into tyranny.

So what Harry Reid is really saying is that he's much like Congress...well, except for the part about being a hardworking rancher trying to make a living for his family on a ranch that his family has had for over a hundred years!

There's A LOT more to this story that would trouble you. Do the research since the news is one sided. Take nothing from just face value. There was a gated 1st amendment zone setup to only allow 25 or so protesters at a time set up. Hello, freedom of speech! Constitutional rights are being trampled on. That's why others came to the aid of Mr. Bundy. Who's family's cattle have been grazing on that very property since 1877. Yes, 1877....before the BLM was created! Harry Reid is a crook who's doing some back door dealing to get that land. All the other ranchers have been bullied out of that region and Mr. Bundy is the last one. He didn't want to be bullied. It's good to look at other sources and networks like Fox as well as CNN to get more facts. Only reading one side of things and refusing to look for more info is naive. Stay properly informed or hold back on having a strong opinion. God bless and long live the Constitution of the United States.

Not always fond of Reid's views or opinions, but I'm not sure he's totally incorrect this time. You've got a guy not paying his fees, as others have correctly paid, and saying he can do what he wants. When the government moves in to enforce the rules that everyone else is following, armed yahoos come storming down threatening violence to back him. At some point you do leave "patriot" behind and become a terrorist. What's that line? Hard to say, but what else would you call them?

This coming from one of the most corrupt politicians of our era right behind Pelosi and the rest of the high ranking democrats(And Republicans.) That is a joke. A really unfunny joke. Sorry Reid, 'your' version of patriot isn't the true meaning. Not one real American believes in that, I can assure.

Harry Reid is diverting attention from his ties with the Chinese and how they want that public land for development. I'm not in favor of ranging livestock on public lands, and I think Bundy should have paid his fees – but when the Govt spends $5,000,000 and storm around armed to the gills and strong arm American Citizens for past range fee's ...... that's incredible to me to be allowed. Its worse than Fast and Furious and Benghazi. I hope next time 25,000 citizens show up and stand off – the Govt was wrong to do it how they did it – PERIOD

I honestly don't know how people in that State can keep voting Harry Reid in. I think he's definitely topped Obama on lying. Just keep watching who will eventually get control of that land (besides the turtles), and then you'll know why Reid says this fight is not over. He is vile.

With so much more important things to worry about like the economy, Russia, Iran and so many others, he is focused on a cattle rancher. There is more to this story than the liberal media is reporting. Harry wants this land for a reason and someone has to get to the real truth.

This senator is clearly out of his mind. I agree that Bundy probably does owe grazing fees. However, I completely disagree with our federal government sending 200+ ARMED federal agents, complete with snipers and attack dogs, to surround Bundy's house and confiscate his cattle.

This is NOT how the United States of America should treat it's citizens. After all, no call was made to send out ARMED federal agents to Birkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett's company that owes the U.S. Government over a BILLION dollars in back taxes.

Harry Reid is a despicable man and should be made to apologize to ALL the Americans he continues to insult on a routine basis.

The guy supposedly owed the government $1 million. They paid the company that was rounding up the cattle...$960,000. To a politician, this makes sense.
