Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

Yet it's perfectly fine for someone with a badge to hold innocent people at gunpoint. If they are domestic terrorists, BLM officers are Governmental Terrorists. Harry Reid is off his damn rocker.

Not exactly the most statesmen like remarks, but accurate none the less.

This Bundy character is a taker and needs to seen as such.

Wow– this is the Fox News main headline and of course it's washed out here. And again– 2 totally different perspectives from the liberal and conservative media. In Nevada, the laws protect an animal more than a man. So he doesn't follow a law he doesn't agree with. He's fighting it. He has other people with him that are fighting it. How do you think Marijuana got accepted in California? Or abortion laws? Or any other law that gets changed according to the mind of the people? This story is about people standing up for themselves against rules that don't make sense– and that is a better read the the Clinton Pregnancy.

Oh so now y'all are worried about someone not paying taxes, but yet what do these illegals pay when they come in illegally and get a job off books? Oh that's right, nothing because y'all want to welcome them in with open arms. Even if y'all do some how get him to pay those taxes, the money isn't going to go anywhere but to another country to help aid them. And as far as I'm concerned, more than half the politicians don't pay jack crap like a normal american. The Government is mad bcause they have finally found the people of this nation isn't going to just stand there and be rear ended anymore.

Harry Reid, the crook, liar, lawbreaker is mad because he couldn't swing a deal with the Chinese and his son because of the Americans standing in his way. When Harry and his dem buddies start enforcing the US border laws then he might have some credibility.

So what did our fearless leader do to combat this "domestic terrorism", Senator? Nothing, that's what. Have you not even a word of criticism for our Chief Executive?

Reid, more embarrassing to the Socialist/Democrat party than Danny Quale was to the Republican party.
He would have made a great pre revolution Brit, though.

We already fought a war to determine state and landowner rights.
Guess who lost. I'll give you a hint: the side that started the conflict that their descendants pretend didn't end and call the "War of Northern Aggression".

Reid's right. And if this was an inner city family that pointed guns at federal officers over unpaid taxes, then the 'right' would agree.

You just added fuel to that fire Mr Reid. There will now be a million more "domestic terrorists" blocking the end game of your agenda. Consider me one of them.

I agree with Sen Reid, which is very rare BTW. The guy is a squatter, a lawbreaker, a tax dodger, is in contempt of two courts and anyone who supports him physically wearing or carrying weapons against our government and its employees, are indeed domestic terrorists.

As I said, they are coming back boys, and you are all going to jail for a long time for assault on federal agents and possibly terrorism charges, your cattle are going to be auctioned off, I'd highly suggest this time when the FBI and the BLM come you give up peacefully. The law is the law, don't like it, bring it up for debate, otherwise follow it like the rest of us and stop using land that is not yours, need more land buy it like everyone else has to. Once again, it doesn't pay to be stupid in 2014, even if you think you live in 1689 still.

Lets understand this, American ranchers that have been herding cattle on that land since the 1800s was attacked by a heavily armed government force in an attempt to confiscate the ranchers property, and harry Reid calls the American ranchers and their supporters terrorists. This really shows just how out-of-touch Harry Reid is from the American people. This is the same Harry Reid calling for America to disarm, now we know why.
