Reid calls supporters of Nevada cattle rancher 'domestic terrorists'

(CNN) - Never one to mince words, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, lumped supporters of Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy in with the Eric Rudolphs, Richard Reids and Timothy McVeighs.

The senate majority leader labeled those who defended the rancher against a Bureau of Land Management cattle roundup "domestic terrorists" at a Thursday evening question-and-answer session hosted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Those people who hold themselves out to be patriots are not. They’re nothing more than domestic terrorists,” Reid said. "I repeat: What went on up there was domestic terrorism.”

Reid's remarks come on the heels of a tense, weeklong showdown that drew armed militia groups from across the country to the cattleman's side, especially after a YouTube video captured a tussle teetering on violence between rangers and protesters.

The BLM ultimately decided to shut down its weeklong roundup of Bundy's cattle Saturday after the incident.

Bundy owed nearly $1 million to the government and has avoided paying federal grazing fees for 20 years. His dispute with the government began around 1993 when the bureau changed grazing rules for the 600,000-acre Gold Butte area to protect an endangered desert tortoise, CNN affiliate KLAS reported.

For his part, Reid insisted that the conflict was not over. The Nevada lawmaker said he spoke with both federal and state law officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder, and was given assurances a task force would be established to deal with the Bundy case.

“It is an issue that we cannot let go, just walk away from,” Reid said.

While the senator mainly took issue with the hundreds who flocked to Bundy's cause, Reid also jabbed at the rancher's reputation.

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.”

In agreement 100%, Mr. Reid! Those guys walking around with guns on their belts, whoooo, big tough guys. They could really care less about the whack job, Bundy. They just need an excuse to exercise their so called right to flex their tiny little trigger fingers.

Maybe you forgot Mr. Reid, something most of you politicians have forgotten. Taxes were supposed to be temporary, and the "Federal Government" was never designed to be the bulky, unmanageable and unsustainable beast it is today. If you look back to where they instituted the temporary taxes, you'd find that you are the ones who are breaking the trust of the American people, and stealing the hard-earned money from everyone. You'll say that the support programs we "need" are supported by the taxes. Well if people weren't paying those taxes, they wouldn't need those support programs as much now would they? Seems like circular logic to me. You politicians are traitors to this country and should be removed. I applaud those every day citizens who stood up to government tyranny and showed you that people shouldn't be afraid of their government, governments should be afraid of their people.

Harry Reid is the true terrorist. He has an obvious vested interest in this land, which is being reported on daily in the media as more is discovered. This is a corrupt Senator who should face Federal indictment. Until now he has been too powerful for investigation, but his power is rapidly fading and there are many in government and media who want him held accountable, not to mention millions of American citizens.

Ok, just like all these quick comparison to Hitler, shouldn't we be a bit more careful when talking about "terrorists"? I mean if these people are terrorists, what do you call the guys that bombed the world Trade Center? You have to have some room above the name you give to these guys who are trying to protect their rights, perceived or real, from an overreaching federal government, if you want to attach correct labels to the guys that are much worse.

This seems kind of bizarre for Harry Reid to get so worked up about. Terrorists? Really?

No matter which side you fall on this debate, I have to believe most people would find Reid's comments to be inaccurate, if not completely inappropriate.

The people of his state are ultra radical, stupid, or they are getting the shaft on the elections. Put this dinosaur out to pasture along with the rest of the lifer PoS politicians. My thoughts, if you belong to the republican or democratic parties... it is time to get out.

Reid has been shown for the type person he really is. He should be shamefaced and too embarrased to be seen in public yet, he goes on TV and makes a bigger fool of himself.

I think Harry Reid is doing a great job of confirming exactly WHY those supporters showed up at the Bundy Ranch. Keep talking Harry and digging your hole, and the government's hole, deeper ...

"He doesn’t pay his taxes," Reid said. "He doesn’t pay his fees. And he doesn’t follow the law. He continues to thumb his nose at authority.” This applies to illegal aliens as well, Harry. Why the hate towards U.S. citizens and hugs for criminal invaders? Hypocrite much?
