Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

Wow. I generally see CNN as a moderate force in news but this piece is loaded with the kind of snark I typically only see on MSNBC.

CNN wrote an article on what SHE said, which means if there was any "snark" it came from HER. Why is CNN repeating what SHE said such a problem for you?

I love Sarah Palin. Not as a politician, but because people of the left flip out when she says stuff.
Well, I love her too because she shows so very graphically how morally bankrupt the Right is. Hear that when she speaks? That's the sound of voters fleeing the GOP.

So all you beautiful do gooder, tree hugger, peta people, Oh! and climate warming believers would rather tickle the enemy with a feather until they give up information on who they know are killing Americans, and then have hookah and kabob with them? Open your eyes and wake up now haters!

Right on other side! We should just take the world by force – that's what REAL men do!

Actually, if she became president she'd be obeying the law like every other citizen. Does she even understand that a president isn't a king or dictator? How can she pretend to run for a job she can't even define? And what kind of freaken church does she attend where "baptism" is defined as torturing your enemies? A whole new definition of 'christian charity,' for sure.
Anyway, the GOP has it's 2016 Presidential Candidate for sure! Just trot this brainless old nag out and let her bray and kick for the baggers while the rest of us actually do the work.

Palin has the IQ of a piece of wood. Maybe if we water boarded her she'd shut up for awhile.

I really think Bill Maher should publicly thank Palin for just being, well, Sarah Palin. If it wasn't for her, he'd have that much less to make fun of regarding the Tea Party Republicans.

Wow, just when you think she couldn't possibly say anything more ignorant or insensitive, she manages to top herself again. While I am no fan of Sen.McCain, I will listen to what he has to say about treatment of prisoners.

There is pandering to the crowd, and then there is what she does. She needs to start these statements with " I will never be elected so my opinion is crap, but...."

This is n't being appalled because I don't share her views, this is being appalled because it is hard to believe a person could have that little consideration for others. Period

Maybe Sarah wants to be baptized.....

We prosecuted people for torture for waterboarding during WWII. We also did a lot more than just waterboard a few suspected terrorists. We tortured many many people in CIA black prisons worldwide.

Wow. Palin is living proof that there's no limit to stupid. We can all thank our lucky stars that she never got within a heartbeat of the presidency.

The republican party hung this dumb broad around McCain's neck because they didn't WANT to will the election. GW's bunch had F'ed things up so bad...they didn't want to deal with it themselves. Better to let the Democrats win and do what they've done for the past 6 years....and counting. Run interference on everything coming out of the white house and try to pin the blame on Obama. And as stupid as about half the voters are in this country? They might just pull it off in 2016. IF we get saddled with a republican dominated house AND senate? AND a republican president? 99% of us are going to get F'ed over...BIG time. You ain't seen NUTHIN' yet!

The only folks more ignorant than Palin are the ones that actually listen to her. How stupid do you have to be to take this woman seriously?

"This is a reply to "Fair Is Fair"..... I don't completely understand your post. Perhaps you could explain it further? Especially your last comment, "I suppose you lefties here condone this, right?" Excuse me, but condone WHAT, exactly? Thanks for helping us all understand what was probably a very witty and insightful post on your part. (no, that's not 'inciteful', Ms Palin..)"

Takke a look at the verticcal capitalization.. then get back to me. That goes for you too, Rudy... it goes WAY beyond "Obozo" and the like...
Oh! It's the capital letters, is it? Puh-leeze. You never complained once about "THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH", did you? Not once. You even expressed similar views, but without the extreme language. At least I do condemn the name calling. What have you ever condemned besides Pres. Obama? Nothing. I'm taking two ponits this time.

@Oliver dyer....You might look to the left when you are talking about "offering mindless/thoughtless comments to fire up the base." Harry Reid, Bloomberg, Shumer, Leahy come to mind.

Though something about her saying this......in this way, seems wrong – I have wondered what my own decision would be with a situation of terrorism, where others lives are on the line...kind of like an episode of "24". Many of us like to diss such a notion as advocating violence....but put in that situation – what would you do?
