Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

I really miss this woman! She is not nearly as dangerous as Hillary Clinton and vastly more entertaining. Her goofiness is a national treasure.

everything this gal does leaves a bad taste. Republicans can be so proud to have her on their side. She must have a new book coming out and needs the publicity. Thank God she doesn't hold office.

Palin will never hold public office again, but that's not her goal. Most in the US today don't care about terrorism and it's effects as long as it doesn't effect them personally. I don't agree with Palin on many things, but she is right about terrorists, they deserve to be treated as the animals that they are. Whether its the bombing of the OK City fed building, the destruction of the World Trade Center and Pentagon, shootings at Fort Hood, or the Boston bombers, execute them every one of them.

There are so many things wrong with that statement that I'm actually at a loss where to start. 1) She indicates that she intends to break international treaties in order to use interrogation techniques that are regarded as "torture" by the international community. 2) She uses the term "baptize" with the presumption that the would-be terrorists are Muslim, thus boosting the notion among many in the Middle East that our conflicts represent a holy war between Christianity and Islam. 3) She insults a sacred rite of Christianity by associating it with torture. It's hard to imagine who SHOULDN'T be insulted by this statement.

"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." If she represents the Bill of Rights, how does she support torture? Seems pretty hypocritical to me.

Exactly- she quit being Mayor of that little town; she quite the "socialist" Alaska Oil & Gas Commission; and she quit being Governor. One can probably figure out how the gig with FOX went. Unfortunately, even a few days of Palin would be toxic to whatever office she held.

REALLY!! I'm sure Jesus just loves that talk of baptism ( Washing away of sin) in the same tone as torture. The great thing about this is she WILL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT SHE WOULD DO IF IN CHARGE! This 1/2 term quitter is a fool and proves it every time she spews her crap!

Would someone please inform Ms Palin that one reason the USA does not (supposedly) do torture is that we don't want our enemies to do it to our troops.

How would Palin feel knowing her son was being waterboarding as a terrorist when our country is invading some country half way around the world? How do you who support Palin like the idea that those whose country our forces are in might waterboard your son, your husband, brother, uncle, etc.? It works both ways.
