Palin: ‘Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists’

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a capacity crowd at a National Rifle Association rally how she would baptize terrorists if she was an elected official.

“If I was in charge,” Palin said Saturday in Indianapolis, “they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who ran against then Sen.-Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, with Palin as his running mate, has spoken out against waterboarding, calling it illegal and ineffective. During the Vietnam War, McCain endured years of torture and imprisonment as a prisoner of war under the North Vietnamese.

In her speech, Palin also said the Washington insiders who called the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood a case of workplace violence “don’t know what is right.” That shooting was carried out by Maj. Nidal Hassan.

“Not when that evil Muslim terrorist Major Hassan massacres his fellow military soldiers at Fort Hood,” she said.

Characterizing Hassan, “that devil” as a ‘disgruntled employee,’” is hypocritical, said Palin.

Palin called liberals hypocrites for their stance on issues varying from gun control to torture at the NRA event that was part of the organization’s 2014 convention.

But she backtracked later, saying, “Not all intolerant anti-freedom leftist liberals are hypocrites.”

“I’m kidding,” she said. “Yes, they are.”

Palin told the crowd that “guys like” Sen. Al Franken and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “are not satisfied with just taking your money and your job and your truck and your property and your rights and your healthcare. Those Democrats trying to get all ‘Pelosi’ on ya, and you’re not gonna have it!” she said, referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Palin accused the Democrats of pursuing “policies that poke our allies in the eye and coddle adversaries instead of putting the fear of God in our enemies.”

She ended her speech by telling the crowd that the bracelet she wears celebrates the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791.

“It’s why we’re here, to celebrate and confirm that solemn oath to liberty,” she said.

In the last 8 years we have shown the terrorists and the other factions that we are weak and can't or won't do anything against them. We will see their ire against us here in this country very shortly...

    Re: “If I was in charge…they would know, water boarding is how we baptize terrorists.” {Intermittent AL Governor S.Palin}

Although its been 40+ years since I resigned / reaffiliated, away, from the R.C.C., (my ancestral faith)…due to that faith’s intolerance, fear of modern civilization, & overt / covert criminality…I remember:
Baptism is/was a sacrament, an acceptance into the faith.

As such, to compare a war crime, (‘water boarding’)…to baptism, even as a metaphor, is the height of ‘Bad Taste’!
The U.S. hanged Japanese military & political officials for water boarding, post WW-2, prior to the U.S., Itself, committing this crime, (as national policy), during the ‘Iraq, L.L.C.’ crime(s)!
    For ANY presidential-candidate-fantasizer to adopt a policy of doing so, particularly, as Mrs. Palin cultivates a ‘more-Christian-than-thou’ persona…would be cynically amusing;
    If it weren’t so appalling!

    On the other hand…
Come 2017, aka, Hillary Clinton’s (first of two) inaugurals…
Sarah Palin should receive a $25 ‘thank you’ check, and/or, a gift certificate…
Redeemable at either Hobby Lobby, and/or, Chik-Fil-A, in solemn if amused gratitude for doing so much to assist Mrs. Clinton’s (oval office) ascendency!

Mrs. Palin is merely ONE MORE EXAMPLE of why I’m approaching the ‘big-6-0’, yet have NEVER voted Republican…I CAN’T imagine (ever) voting Republican!

If true then such baptisms are against the 1st amendment which protects everyone's freedom of religion, and therefore their freedom to choose to be baptized.

Its not insensitive. Terrorists deserve harsh punishment for their crimes. However, Sarah Palin's remark is dumb and tactless. It makes her look stupid. Personally I'd rather have a smart person on our team fighting terrorism than a dumb one. But that is just me.

If she thinks waterboarding is "baptism", may I suggest she go through the "baptism" just like another RW mouthpiece, Mancow Muller. After he went through waterboarding, he came away a changed man and said it was torture.

To paraphrase Forrest Gump...Palin is as Palin does.

When we do the same horrible things to a human being that they do us, it makes us just like them. Shame on Palin for saying a thing like that.

Only a conservative would get a chuckle over the idea of perverting a sacrament into a means of torture. I'm sure she had the rest of the unibrow crowd at the NRA meetings rolling over this and other gems that just did not make the cut in terms of offensiveness. However, if anyone on the left suggested Sarah be waterboarded, or a deadbeat rancher pay the decades of back grazing he fees he owes, or anything remotely like the other nonsense the whackjob chorus has said over the years, Palin would be screaming bloody murder, demanding apologies and causing Facebook to crash. She is selective outrage and indiscriminate blather.

So let's get this straight... Sarah Palin just advocated throwing away due process rights... and she said this to a bunch of gun owners who are tired of being characterized as terrorists? Let me repeat that: Gun owners don't want their rights taken away because of incidents of domestic terrorism that make them unfair targets. Sarah Palin endorses violating the rights of Americans to due process before a conviction. Am I missing something here? Did anyone else understand that she just advocated torturing Americans, including but not limited to gun owners?

And gas chambers are just how the Nazi's put the breath of jesus into Jews. It amazes me how little regard for the lives of others people like Sarah Palin have. Granted, terrorists are the enemy, but since when is "baptism" the answer, let alone torture? How is this so very different from the terrorists themselves, who under "jihad" behead Americans? This whole my god is better then your god stuff needs to go away. For the last 100 years or more, we've known the bible/torah/koran is at best stories with moral themes and at worst...Sarah Palin.

Nobody needs the "fear of god". They need books, jobs, compassion for one another. Maybe I'm just some "crazy liberal who hates freedom" but I thought the bill of rights protected my freedoms to be a -good- person if I so desire. I thought the bill of rights protected people from "forced baptisms" with freedom of religion. So who is really the hypocrite here?

What a Sad Woman. I think she would say anything to get her name in the Headlines. Republican's have become America's Extremist Tyrants and Worst Threat to Democracy and need to be taken down a notch or two.

Well as long as she is ok with our enemies waterboarding our captured Americans/soldiers..then I guess she is consistent. But do you think just maybe it is ok when we do it but not ok when they do it. We are supposed to be better than the enemy.

She's still grasping at straws I see. Usually people who use name-calling as a form of disparagement or bullying, just means they are either too lazy or too ignorant to use their brains for a legitimate or logical argument. Good job, Sarah. Way to once again show how intelligent you are.

So if she were president she'd commit war crimes, got it.

Thank god she's just in it for the money rather than being a legitimate contender to any office anywhere...

I just want to be clear – this woman makes a JOKE about the values we as Americans hold most dear – and YOU think that is OK? That she JOKES about CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY committed by the country we AMERICANS hold as a SHINING CITY ON A HILL and YOU think that is fine? Really? REALLY???????

The extreme right's version of freedom:
Indefinite imprisonment and torture w/ no possibility of public hearing for being being the same ethnicity as a known terrorist.

  20. The Bottom Line

And Palin serves up a nice big order of Red Herring so that the yokels don't notice that the super-rich people they are really supporting get even more power. Guns, terrorism, abortion, religion, just a bunch of hot-button frauds to keep the rubes howling while the hogs gorge themselves at the American trough.

Your own party is the one exploiting you, not the other guys. Ask yourself what they have actually done for you, and the answer will be "nothing." They keep you in a state of outrage over "issues" that they do little to nothing about, while the real pig-deals go through on the sly.

Next time we see some American soldiers hanging headless from a bridge, think about Sarah Palin.

Next time you see body parts in the streets of Boston, think about Sarah Palin.

Next time we witness Americans jumping from flaming skyscrapers – we all have Sarah Palin to thank.

Gee thanks Sarah... maybe you can team with the next loser or has-been that our party comes up with for a candidate so that your inane comments can help guarantee Hillary the White House. Not all of us gun owning conservatives are Religious Tea-Party whackdoos... not that it matters.
